  • Day 8 on induction...0 lbs lost

Good morning ADBB... I've been on the induction part of atkins for a week now so I decided to get on the scale this morning. I was so excited because 3 days into the diet I had already lost 4 pounds! Well, my excitement was short lived when the scale said I managed to find those 4 pounds back and now I am at the exact weight I was a week ago. I have to admit that I cried a little. I then decided, to measure myself because I feel great and I know I haven't cheated...so maybe I've lost in measurements.....NOPE! nothing! I don't know what I'm doing wrong? I have been spending a lot of time on this website reading and getting tons of information (and of course a lot of inspiration)... I have been drinking more water than I have ever drank in my life (more than 120oz per day) and my daily carbs have not gone over 20. I've taken the babies out for a walk everynight since I started (which I never did before so I'm hoping that is considered exercise) When I go back and look at my food journal... I think I might be taking in too many calories, too much fat, too much protein and not enough veggies, but not sure. Also, on day 1 - I made the SF jello cheesecake in the recipes and have had a piece of that each day... could it be the sweetner in the jello? Another thing that crossed my mind is that I take medications for BP, depression, thyroid and a baby aspirin for my heart....could that be slowng down the weight lose? I don't want to quit because, like I said, I feel great and my blood sugar is at around 120 when before the diet I couldn't get it under 200.... but I also don't know how much longer I can keep up with it if I'm not going to lose weight.

Food Intake for 2/12/09 (Typical for every other day)

    Breakfast
3 hard boiled eggs (I love hard boiled eggs
    1/4 of a cucumber

    Lunch
    6 oz. ribeye
    1/4 of a cucumber

    Snack

First. Step away from the scale and read the sticky above called "Weight Loss Isn't Linear"

Second. Give the 14 days, the entire 14 days.

Third. Review how much cheese you are eating. Remember we are allowed 3-4 ounces of cheese only per day. Check the cheesecake recipe to see how ounces of cheese are in each serving of the cake.

Fourth. Review the amount of cream you are eating. 2-3 tablespoons is the daily limit. It is allowed in 3 fluid ounces ---but as a Special Category Food. Those foods are known to slow or stall some people. So check how much cream you are really getting per day by counting what you use and how much is in each serving of the cheesecake.

Fifth. The book says the majority of our daily carbs should be from vegetables alone. So if you are eating 10 net carbs daily, then at least of those net carbs should be from veggies. Check your menu to see if this holds true for you.

Sixth. Check the sweeteners you use. Jello Brand SF Jello is made with aspartame. Asparatame, according to Dr. Atkins, may slow or stop weight loss in some folks, which is why asparatame isn't a "legal" sweetener on Atkins. And remember we are limited to 3 servings of sweetener daily.

Seventh. Focus on how this diet has improved your life so far. You said your blood sugar is terrific right now and you feel great. Those are WONDERFUL effects on your general health and a good reason for continuing. I went on Atkins primarily to lose weight, but when I saw that my asthma and allergies improved to the point I was able to get off 90% of my medications, I began to look at the weight loss as a bonus, rather than the primary benefit.

Excellent post and the best reason, saved for last.

Thank you Not2Late... I really do feel a lot better ... not only physically but mentally too. I'm not going to quit... I thought I was doing pretty good but, this week I'll pay closer attention to my cheese and cream intake. I swear, I think I am part mouse because I LOVE CHEESE...lol. Thanks for your support.

sclouise, since your question was not related to the topic of this thread, I have moved your post into a separate one. You can find it here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

Re: Day 8 on induction...0 lbs lost

Adri ~ last February I tried doing this diet and after 6 weeks I had lost nothing. I felt like I was doing everything right, but the truth was.. I was eating too much cheese, too much cream, and made SF "sweet" snacks all the time.
I really suspect that is what made me lose nothing. So this time around I am staying away from any SF sweet snacks, no cream, and limiting myself to 1oz of cheese a day.
So far I've lost 5lbs, which last year I had lost nothing at this point. It's still early.. BUT, I think dropping those things is the key for me personally.
