  • SOOO upset!

    Soo.. After an incridible weightloss on atkins.. 2 kids and a whole lot of going on and off the wagon.. lol I started atkins again last monday and dropped 7 pounds already.. Now yesterday my hubbys friend was sending me all these links to websites and trying to talk me into getting off atkins as its not healthy......the weight will come back on.. ( witch i sort of beleive cuz when i got pregnant and started eating a lil bit more carbs, i put back on the 80 pounds I had lost in just 7 months) and talking me into quitting....

    Now last night i cheated and had a sandwich for supper...



    I dont know what to do today....=(
    Should i go back on the wagon... or leave the atkins wagon....
    Ive been researching and i havent found any good websites that say anything good about atkins other then atkins websites...

    can you post those websites that hubby's friend has sent to you? I am interested. You know for every person that discredits Atkins- there is someone to discredit the discreditor (??what did i say??)
    anyway- you know what I mean.

    Many Many people think that induction is the entire Atkins program- obviously it isn't. I don't understand how eating fresh meats and fresh fruits, veg and dairy is bad for you??

    It might be a good idea to keep the atkins program for yourself for a while- i mean don't let everyone know until you get back into it.

      Had you told people you were cutting out the whites' (bread/pasta/rice/starches/sugar) and concentrating on eating lower GI vegetables and no processed foods I bet everyone would be congratulating you on choosing such a healthy diet

        Wow... You sound so much like me. In 2003 I went on a "LOW CARB" diet and lost 99 lbs. I want call it Atkins b/c honestly... I ate meat, cheese, and 20 grams of net carb (like a Hersey candy bar or glass of chocolate milk... that was my carbs) and Yes.. I did feel good and Yes I did loose weight and fairly quickly it took less than a year.

        Fastforward, 2 kids later... yes I started 1 pound heavier then I was in 2003. Now willl I blame the diet, no... simply I made the choices I wanted to make. I wanted that chocolate cake and icecream, I wanted the bread, pasta, gravies, I wanted it all more then I wanted to learn to "deal" with why I was eating them to begin with.

        Now I have restarted just a few days ago for real.. although I have played with dieting and loosing weight for a few months some things I have realized to be true...

        1) After the first few days, I feel good. I don't crave junk and I feel I'm in control of my body, also increased energy.

        2) Looking through recipes has been the best thing to show me how delicious the food can be, not just egg, and meat, and cheese.. veggies, veggies, veggies.

        3) Realizing that "Introduction" is NOT the WOL eating... it is just the first steps. If you look at the Rung that you go up to you will see what can and will be added back, at its time and slowly climbing up. You will also see if some of the things "trigger" cravings or weigt gain. At that time it is your choice to eat it or not.. not the diet telling you so. For me personally I know milk doesn't bother my body at all (other diets always tell me low fat or to eliminate, but through my own testing it time and time again... it doesn't) However, I do know that grains does. It doesn't satisfy me, 1 hour later I'm hungry and on top of that I gain weight.

        This time around I read the book cover to cover.. hmm.. what a difference and difference of understanding the WHOLE program. Now I feel more content with eating Introduction for as long as I want or as long as it takes knowing what my next step will be, knowing what I'll be eating like once I'm happy with where my body is.

        I also recommend telling people you are eating healthier or if you are not and have to tell them you are a "diabetic" and the Dr has you cutting out the bread / sugar to see if that stabilizes your blood sugar.

        None of us can tell you to do this or leave this. I can tell you it is a personal choice. If you are 80lbs over weight.. I'm almost positive that Atkins can not in any way hurt you more then carring around that extra baggage. Plus if you look at so many peoples website (not studies actual people who share their personal experience you can be the judge) I included a couple just so you can see....

          1)You know no matter what eating plan you choose if you go back to your old eating habits that made you gain weight in the 1st place, you are going to regain that weight. It is nothing to do with the eating plan and everything to do with the eater.

          2) You have lost weight on Atkins before ( I'm guessing like me you tried other diets before this with little success) so ask your self what is better for me.
          A) I can go on Atkins and lose weight. I'll feel better, have more energy, be able to run and play with my kids longer and I will lower my risk factors for several health problems linked directly to being overweight.
          B) I can not go on Atkins. Eat bread and the people around me will feel better because I'm not on a "dangerous" diet. But I'm still over weight and I struggle with all the old diets that never worked before. I feel bad and I raise my risk factors for things like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, ect.



          This is my third time on Atkins (I know I'm bad). Every time I have went on Aktins people have told me it's not healthy and I should go off the diet now before it's to late. To which I reply well being fat isn't healthy either so I'll take my chances with Atkins.
          ***The one person that has never had a problem with Atkins is my doctor. Now, that's interesting isn't it.****

            You will have to pick a way of eating that you can do for life. Atkins/low carb is not about dieting, its about eating healthy. Its not all fat ladden foods as people think it is. It is about eating healthy, and each run you get more and more items added.

            Just take a look at the other diet plans they are suggesting, if you think that you can commit to one of them, they try it, if not, you need to look within yourself to find what will work for you.

            I hope to hear what you decide no matter what because its all about support.

              i can only say do whats best for you. You know how hard and how dedicated you need to be to stay on Atkins. I do feel inspired that you have lost weight on the plan before. For me personally, I do plan on staying with this weigh of life forever. I am a carb-aholic. I cant just have one biscuit, etc. but again, You do whats best and right for you. and good luck with whatever you choose!

                Remember everyone is an expert about other people's business. Try to trust what you know in your heart to be true. Atkins didn't cause you to gain wt, going off Atkins did. Once you get through all the rungs Atkins is a very well balanced diet that looks like most other diets. It is healthy living. Induction is tough but it's only 2 weeks.

                I too made the mistake of talking to someone about Atkins and she really wants me to go to wt watchers with her now and 'try it'. So not doing it. I know this works for me. I too lost wt, and regained partly due to steroids after surgery and partly me being stupid and not sticking to Atkins like glue. Remember that no diet will keep the wt off if you don't watch yourself closely and make yourself do some sort of maintenance plan.
