  • Down 8lbs already!!

I started Atkins on Monday and couldn't help but weight myself today, Friday and I was so excited to see I am down 8lbs already. I know maybe it's all water weight, but it's motivation none the less. I must confess I am not adhering to the 20carb max. On my first day I was up to like 30ish carbs and thought I messed the entire day up simply because I had too many vegetables. However I read alot on the internet about low carb diets and found alot of people saying they lost well up to 40carbs. So while yes this is suppose to be 20carb induction, I plan to try not to go over 35. My goal will be to have closer to 20 if I can but hey this is working so far and my energy was low the first 2-3 days but I am already filling better and not craving bad food. And if I eat too many vegetables, so what, I am eating healthier and even feeling full longer eating this way. I hope nobody has anything negative to say, whatever works for you, great, this so far works for me. Anyone else going over 20carbs and losing steadily? This board is great, glad I found it

Lisa, while I love your enthusiasm, you really really should read the book and do Atkins and not something you made up. Its just so much easier to do it by the book, and it really works. What happens when you quit losing, you won't know how to fix it and no one will be able to help because your not doing Atkins
Welcome to the board and congrats on the weight loss. Great start

i second that... its great that you love having veggies.. its actually a plus point.. but at least in the induction phase 20 g of carb should not be crossed.. its only two weeks so it wud be over in a jiffy.. then u can add more veggies as u go up the rung in OWL

      congrats on the weight loss

Yep I agree. If you bend the rules this early, you are not giving yourself the best start....

Try and do induction as per the book. 20g per day. Then move straight to OWL and with three weeks, you can be up to 35g carbs if that's what you desire. I am on week 17 and still on 30g carbs. Taking it slow seems to be the key to longterm success as I can move up when I get bored and not before.

        Good luck x

          Re: Down 8lbs already!!

Well... I'm happy that you are happy and are loosing.. and I know what everyone here has said may seem a little discouraging, but in all honesty it is right. 6 years ago I lost 99pounds doing an "Atkins" diet... "put in quotations b/c it really wasn't Atkins" I didn't read the book and I hated veggies. I had eggs and cheese for breakfast, a large amount of meat at lunch (and sometimes even breaded fish or chicken or mozzarella sticks) and another large amount of meat at dinner and sometimes green beans (being the only veggie I would eat) ... so you may say where are my carbs, well I ate a Hersey Candy bar or chocolate milk (allowed 21 carbs) so if you do the math I didn't count the carbs from eggs or cheese and lets don't talk about the breaded fried foods.

Trust me I felt great compared to what I had been feeling. Now could I have felt better (possibly?) Also, what happened. Once I lost the weight I didn't know where or how to go from there. I also didn't change my habits. So 2 kids and 5 years later I'm back to square one... not really I have lost 34lbs but by doing low carb!!! And that is what I think you are doing right now, more of a low carb diet. Maybe close to the South Beach diet introduction.

Personally I don't have a problem with it, but it does seem that this is a hard core Atkins board and it seems from the experts that if done 100% correctly those cravings, binges, or wrong decissions that got you here in the first place vanishes and gets whished away. So as of now I'm not 100% commited, but I'm coming around. And when that day happens I will be honest with myself and give myself a 100% chance to SHINE!!!!

Best of Luck and Great Job... Keep working the plan and it will work for you.

It is okay if it takes me a little longer to get there, besides this is where I'm going to stay forever and that is a really long time!!!
