  • Was doing great til dinner, now I feel let down

I'd been doing so well watching everything I ate since I started Induction on Saturday. Getting to 15 carbs, much less 20 is a stretch when you really put your mind to it and I was so excited for myself because I loved my orange juice and Pepsi which clearly would have put me out of the game previously.

Tonight for dinner we had Stuffed Sole with Crab and Scallops, and I didn't even think to ask if my mom checked the ingredients. It sounded wonderful and it was. Well lo and behold when I went to check the nutritional facts at the Omaha Steaks website the Sole was packed with 20g of carbs and had all sorts of nasty ingredients in it like canola oil, corn starch, sugar and enriched bleached wheat flour. I'd been doing so good! I'm hoping this won't mess me up too much to where I'd have to start over. If ever there were a time I wished I was on my own where I would cook for myself it would be now. Guess this is just affirmation that I have to be extra diligent when it comes to checking labels on EVERYTHING before I stick it in my mouth, no matter how wonderful it might initially sound.

    Hello Ryan,
Just mark it up as a lesson learned. Good for you coming to the realization that you have to read ALL food labels before consuming the food. The canola oil is a good thing. The corn starch, sugar and wheat flour were the baddy's. If anything, it has thrown you out of ketosis for just a day or so. Flush your system with lots of water and you'll be back to melting again soon.
Along with educating yourself, your mom will also learn what you can have and can't have through your weightloss journey.
Congratulations choosing the healthiest lifestyle there is......ATKINS!
I also would like to take the time to invite you to come on over to the Century Club Roll Call each day and check in. Would love to see you there. Great group of folks with lots of suport and encouragement.
    Hope to see you there.
Keep up the great work you're doing for yourself!

Checked this morning when I woke up and I am still in ketosis (though it was the first time the rose color showed up...it was always the deep violet before) so it looks like my unintentional splurge wasn't as damaging as it could have been. Thanks for the encouraging words Sherri and I'll check out Century Club Maybe I just need to be cooking for myself while the family does their thing so that doesn't happen again.

Good for you for seeing the slip-up as a minor event and not throwing in the towel as some people do! You definitely need to always read labels because they sneak sugar and corn syrup into the most unlikely things. It's a 'buyers beware' market when it comes to food. They tell you things are healthy when they are anything but. Keep up the good work.

Not being in charge of what you eat is the pits. It's hard enough when you are in charge--all processed and packaged foods are loaded with junk.

You really have to learn to read labels. Don't take anything on the front of a label for granted--especially if it says "sugar free." They hide sugar under names like dextrose, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup and evaporated cane juice. They get away with it, too!

Eating in restaurants is bad too. Almost all put a mixture of salt, black pepper and sugar on their steaks--it makes a nice glaze! Omelets have pancake batter to make them fluffy.

Would learning to cook be out of the question at your house? I make out-of-this-world crab-stuffed tilapia and it is so easy. Mmmmm I just loaded up on crab, scallops and shrimp, I might have to try it with crab and scallops.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
