  • Splenda

Before starting Atkins a couple weeks ago I was a diet soda holic!

I would consume Coke Zero like it was going out of style, anywhere from 4-6 cans a day...

Since learning aspartame is bad for Atkineers I have since switched to Diet Rite (rasberry is the best one imo).

My question is simply how many servings of Splenda are there per can?

I know we're allowed 3 servings a day of Splenda and just guessing of the top of my head I would assume that one can would put right about at the limit.

Another quick question is regarding caffeine.

I used to order a Starbucks double shot large coffee every morning on the way to work, and another also later in the day.

Since learning lots of caffeine can hinder progress doing Atkins, I have opted to having one teaspoon of instant coffee (which has much less caffeine than fresh brewed) in the morning to sort of help rid the cob webs and I'm good for the rest of the day.

Will this little bit of instant coffee prevent or slow down future fat loss?

    Any 411 is really appreciated.

OmeleteFreak, I am not sure of the splenda count , but I do know I do have to have my coffee from starbucks and that would be a large decaf with heavy whipping cream and 1 splenda .... You give me one of those a day and I am the happiest girl in the world . LOL

A 'serving' of a drink is usually reckoned to be 8 fluid ounces, so one 12 ounce can would be 1.5 servings and account for half of your 3 a day limit.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Thanks for the feedback rhondabak, decaf might be my next step to taper down the caffeine almost completely.

Does decaf mean reduced caffeine, or completely caffeine free?

Just wondering if it has any pick me up whatsoever.

That makes perfect sense, thank you Elizellen.

Decaffeinated coffee has been processed (chemically or via water filtration...don't ask me the details, because I don't know! ) to remove the caffeine, but trace amounts remain.

I drink a cup of decaf with 2 tablespoons of cream nearly every morning. It just makes breakfast a bit nicer.

            Re: Splenda

I went from about 4 coffees a day to decaf and never noticed any difference. I still feel like it 'clears the cobwebs' but I think that is a mindset. It tastes like coffee so my mind thinks I am still getting it.

I have heard horror stories about withdrawals from caffeine but never had any issue with it at all.

I know people that caffeine slows their weight loss and others that have no problem with it at all.

              Interesting.

I think I'll start decaf today and see if I notice any difference.

              Thanks for the info Jodes.

I love coffee too. I hope it doesn't slow weight loss.
