    Heya everybody,
Im not new to atkins ive been on and off it for atleast 5 years now but im determined to get it right this year and keep it going. Im starting induction today fresh and i was reading my book again unfortunately i have the newer book which seems a bit different to me so i have a few questions

    1) the old book used cups for example 2 -3 cups of salads or 2 cups salad and 1 cup other veggies, this book gives me 230-340g salad or you do 170 g plus 80 g other salad are these the same?

    2) if i go by weight i have one tomato that weighs 180 g already i know this wouldnt fil 1 cup so how do i deal with this?

    3) i cook with powdered spices kinda like indian dishes and most of the spices have no details in terms of nutritional values they are spices from my home country should i leave them out?

    4) is soy sauce allowed, im living in china and everything has soy sauce so
can i use it to cook my meals or eat meals with it?

Thanks for the help and guidline, hope everyone is having a successful induction period.

    di

    Re: Clarification

The UK version printed 2003 also has the weights instead of the 3 cups, but I think you would be better off stickign to the 3 cups instead, as different veggies work out as different weights per cup.
For instance 340 grams of iceberg lettuce would be about 6-7 cupsworth whereas 340 grams of chopped peppers is a bit more than 2 cups.

I think the editors of copies of DANDR printed outside the USA were puzzled by the 'cup' thing as we dont measure solid things like veggies in a liquid measure like the americans do, so did their best to convert the cup into ounces but failed as they hadnt realised that the "one cup = 8 ounces" conversion rate is only true of fluid ounces not weight ounces.

There is a good thread in this forum that shows how many grams equal one cup of vegetables for induction, so I would suggest using that info to make sure you stick to around the 3 cups max in Dr Atkins original version of DANDR.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

The USDA database lists many spices, and is the source for most websites/books info on nutrition.

Go here http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/ and type in either the name of the spice or just the word spice to get a list of all the spices they have info on.

Also, about the herbal teas, they are allowed. Most of them have a negligible amount of carbs--usually 1/2 carb or less. The actual real teas have slightly higher carb contents.

On page 126 under the heading "Spices" it states: All spices to taste, but make sure none contain added sugar.

All spices have some carbs, but are allowed to give flavor and keep the food from being boring. None of my Asian spices have sugar. Most of the spice blends here in the US contain sugar. I have to make up all my blends.
