  • 2nd time around - day 6

    Hello,

Just wanted to say Hi and tell somone how my diet is going , since my family has no interest at all

This is my second time with atkins, first time didnt go so well.
seems much easier this time though, and I have a workout partner at the gym now so Im going 4 days a week
Got my keto stix to dark purple today, after I cut back on the crystal lite yesterday.

My husband is a vegitarian , he makes his own food thank goodness =)
but he keeps eating my pickles and olives ! :anger

One thing bad about this is I used to buy very little meat and we had a small grocery bill, now our grocery bill has tripled... meat is expensive !
Ive been buying a lot of it though, I have a fear of running out of food in the house and running to sonic for a fix so I overstocked and overcooked a bit .

Also Im afraid to try out some of the induction recipies.. I think If I try a little cream I may just want the whole container (who can stop at 2 tbsp ?).

I'm also worried about this coming Friday, the only night we go out , to meet our friends and drink margaritas, dont know how Im going to survive without margaritas and martinis on the weekend, that was the start of my downfall the last time I was on atkins =(

On the bright side I've lost 7 pounds so far Whoopee !

I know, being new on induction is hard but remember those 7 lbs gone! That will be a big motivator. I know what you mean about grocery bills but once you have been on Atkins a bit, you will learn what most of us have. Learn to look in the papers each weekend for sales on bulk meat or look at Sam's or Costco for meat options; beef will always be expensive, so you might want to eat more chicken or turkey. Switch it up with some seafood or fish. Also, when you stop worrying about running out of food, your bill will go down! lol!

I know it is a little scary because you have no family support but there is us! :nod And you really should try some induction recipes, that way you won't get bored. Atkins is all about experimenting with cooking! Friday, eat something before you go out, don't give in to "come on, a little won't hurt" or "you can start your diet again tomorrow, just taste...." kinda talk ('cause you will probably get that). Tell your friends that you are on Atkins and you can't indulge in that stuff. They may roll their eyes, laugh or whatever but when the new you gets slimmer and slimmer, you will be the one laughing then. :joy Above all, you decide whether you are going to cheat or not and you just have to make up your mind that you are gonna do this and no one will stop you. come here to us for support and keep your induction clean and you are on your way!

Congratulations on the 7 pounds down :joy :joy :joy :joy
You have received good advice about eating beforehand on your Friday night out. You can enjoy yourself just as much while drinking water with a slice of lemon and lots of ice.
After all it is the getting together with friends that is important - not what you drink!!
And keep in mind that if you do succumb to alcohol firstly it is a 'cheat' and you dont want to spoil your record and secondly it will delay any weightloss while your body uses the alcohol for fuel and stores the rest of your food as fat!!
Try and keep remembering that you have lost 7 pounds so far and by drinking water you will keep the momentum up and lose more!!
Maybe now is the time to enrol some of your friends as helpers and ask them to help you stick to this WOE to enable you to become more healthy and more fun to be with.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I cheated last month with Margaritas.. had 2 at Happy hour at a local bar.. buy one get one free... huge very sugary drinks! Next day I was up a pound... but it did not stop there.. next day I was up half pound..next day half pound tilll I was up almost 4 pounds! :yikes

never again... no more sugary drinks! :no

Having said that... plain alcohol does not make me gain.... rum and diet coke? scotch and soda.... very dry martini.... dry white wine....
but then I am a very slow loser.... but still a loser.... :confused

I know what you mean...it's hard to watch everyone else having fries. But, we know you have the strength inside...you just have to keep telling yourself that. Also, this is just one night of discomfort; all the days that you feel good in your clothes and feel like the mirror doesn't hate you WILL MAKE UP FOR IT!
            :hug
One suggestion - most restaurants (DH and I go out a lot) serve vegetables instead of a potato now. In fact, most of them serve zuchinni and brocolli and not just carrots and peas - ask the waitress. Also, if you order something that comes with fries they will switch for salad. Eat your salad slowly so you aren't just sitting there while their pigging out on onion rings! :icondance
            Crawling still gets you there!

Right here, you've made a very important observation, and you've recognized a trouble spot. That's excellent, because now you can decide on how to deal with this before you go out. :yes

Think about options before you go. If it's going to be a peer pressure thing when it comes to drinking, and that nobody is going to listen when you say alcohol isn't allowed on your diet, then don't be shy to say you have an upset stomach, or even that you are on meds that don't allow alcohol. You have to do what's best for YOU, and there are going to be many many social occasions in your life where you'll be faced with things like this, and what better time to deal with it than right now.

If you feel your friends will be supportive, you can say that at this point in time you can't have alcohol, but there will come a time when you can. Somehow that seems to placate some folks (I had to do this last time we were out with friends and it had to do with the bread basket! Weird hey, the way people combine food and social activities!)

Take a moment and read what Joan wrote about putting yourself first.

You can do this...you have the tools, and that seven pounds gone...that's fantastic motivation!!! :joy

Joan's post was great motivation to just be ourselves.

It's hard though, I always feel funny saying I'm on a diet or I can't eat that because I don't want to draw attention to the fact that I'm fat. How do you get around that silent pause when everyone at the table looks you over after you've said, "I can't eat that"? Then, they feel obligated to say nice things about you or that you're not fat (when it's obvious I am ).

You could just say "no thanks" but then they ask, "Why, are you on a diet"" and the whole situation progresses like above.

I guess, we just have to become comfortable with that silent pause....I don't know...I still say "no thanks" and hope for the best but usually it evolves into a diet discussion and there I am, fat, with 5 other skinny people looking at me.

Oh good for you!!! :icondance :joy :icondance :joy

I'm sure it was a little odd and maybe awkward for you to not join in with your friends, but that's so excellent that you stuck to your guns! Well done!

You know, it all adds up..every little thing you do, whether it be choose water over alcohol, or stopping at 1 ounce of cheese instead of eating 3 ounces at a shot, or making sure your salad measures out to the proper amount, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator....all of it adds up!

                      Again, well done!

Well done - ain't it great to be in control :joy :joy

Next time you know you are going to be in a situation where there might be pressure to conform and eat/drink something you don't want to because it is inappropriate for your Atkins stage try to remember how good it felt last night to stick with induction and it will help you stay resolute. :yes
