  • I made a booboo

I've been in the Induction phase since Feb. 17(2.5 weeks), I have what I consider to be little slip ups (ex. having 4-5 Splendas a day, and I still drink Coffee, probably not enough water) the first week and a half I was eating the "all phases" Atkins bar, but I cut those out of my diet, anyhow I'm still in Induction. I walk 3 miles a day 5x a week.
Here's my question... I had an unexpected dinner guest (my neices new boyfriend) and he brought me a bottle of red wine to have at dinner...I didn't have the heart to tell him I couldn't drink it, he was nervous already was trying to impress me..I had 2 glasses (6oz? each). I vaguely remember something about red wine being allowed after induction in the book. What do I do now??? I weighed in at 199, the same as yesterday..where do I go from here?

    Re: I made a booboo

You just go right back to day before yesterday's diet. With wine, you will burn the alcohol before burning stored fat. If you use the Ketostix to test for ketosis, you will get a false positive for about three days.

Wine and low carb alcohol is not until rung 5. You need to work your way through extra veggies, soft cheeses, nuts and seeds and berries before trying alcohol.

Since you can't undo yesterday, don't make a big deal about it in your mind. Just move forward as if the slip never happened.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Thank you Sunny! I'm trying, I keep telling myself drink lots of water! It's so hard for me. I've been drinking Crysatl Light, I think that's ok to drink, right? I'm working on the coffee, 1/2 & 1/2 and splenda reduction. I've got it down to 3-4 a day 2weeks ago I was drinking a pot or two a day!....any thoughts on how to control my caffiene addiction....besides cold turkey~I don't want the withdrawls.
One more thing, I don't eat breakfast until 11am. I've always been like this, food just isn't appealing to me any earlier. I usually have my coffee, get on the tread mill~ 3miles but only 2 today, then eat breakfast about 11. Any suggestions?

Crystal Light is not okay. It has aspartame, fruit solids and other forbiden stuff. It's worse for you than caffeine. You are also limited to 3 servings of artificial sweeteners a day.

I don't know what to tell you about your coffee. I cut way back, but didn't give it up. I tried cutting it out for six weeks one time, two weeks for some tests I was having, then since I was over the detox, I decided to stay off longer, but nothing improved and when I started drinking it again, I lost faster. Caffein does not cause a sugar spike and then drop in everyone.

About breakfast: this was my challenge, too. I have not been a breakfast person since a child. This was my second time doing Atkins and I sat down and made up a list of everything I had to change to be successful. Then I made a plan as to how I would bring it about. I actually wrote a contract with myself.

I used to start eating about dinner time and then eat until midnight. At that time I had terrible acid reflux, which kept me up most of the rest of the night.

My contract stated that I would eat breakfast before 9:00 a.m. and I would finish dinner by 7:00 p.m. and eat nothing after. It didn't happen right away, but when I stuck to the cut-off time for all food, slowly I was hungry earlier in the day.

I still remember forcing myself to eat at 11:00 a.m. the first morning, which was early for me. By the end of a month, I was ready for breakfast by 7:00 a.m. and never wanted food after dinner.

I was able to stop taking the 160 mg of Nexium that I had been taking for years for acid reflux and I no longer had it at all.

If you eat late at night, your food is processed slower while your body gears down for sleep, so you are still full in the morning. If you make a rule about eating late, you will soon be able to eat earlier.

I always liked breakfast foods, but late in the day or for dinner. If you had told me that I could eat bacon and eggs at 7:00 a.m I would have told you that you were crazy.

You can do anything you set your mind to do. Decide how much you want the weight loss and the energy and health, then do what it takes to make it happen. Everything that you really want comes with a price tag: pay the price and keep moving forward and don't look back.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

I also eat my first meal at 11 am. Or later! But it's not by choice. It's just the way my class schedule and the dining hall schedule overlap. It hasn't affected my weight loss, I think, so I'm not going to do anything about it. :P

You are still very young, you can probably get away with it. You should try to eat as regular as you can, though. Try to adopt good eating habits while you are young and less set in your bad ways.

Do not worry to much about it, I am on induction and have a couple
glasses of red wine after work and it does not seem to slow me.

But this is John's low carb, as I not want to say I am on induction
and having wine as thats not Atkins, so I call it Johns low carb
so the Mod's do not run to me and tell me I am not doing Atkins

But seriously, listen to SunnySmile501 I have read many of her
posts and she is great !

We all slip, just get back up, thats half the battle.

                  Good Luck !

Thank you for the insight everyone! Sunny, lol I just had a glass of Crystal Light right before I signed on...well tomorrow's a new day!
Kobber, when I was first on Atkins I modified it too. I didn't read the book, but looked to a guy I worked with that had the book and he would give me pointers. I lost alot of weight on it. This time I'm trying to play by the rules, because I might lose the weight quicker~ I hope.

                      Hi Rose,

Yes its better to go by the book for best results, I follow it 98%
and I am doing well and I have my glass or 3 of wine at night.
                      thats the 2 %

I am doing good and my pants are slipping off, I needed to tighten
my belt a new 2 notches.... but... maybe if I laid off the wine I
would have needed to tighten it 4 notches.

Its me and will see how it goes.

                      Good luck !!
