  • Unsure if this menu is ok.......

    Hi all,

    I'm new to Atkins and I'm on the induction phase. I started last Tuesday, but cheated on Friday as I felt I wasn't in ketosis and felt like giving up. I restarted yesterday, but I was just wondering if this menu is ok, because I didn't seem to be loosing any weight.

    My typical menu is:

    Breakfast: 2 poached eggs
    Lunch: Chicken salad that includes lettuce, 3-4 slices cucumber, half a tomato and some mayonaise
    Dinner: Either an omlette with cheese OR 100% beefburger, no bun, spinach and 2 fried eggs.

    Last week I had about 4 Mattessons pork sausages over 5 days. I'm not eating that anymore because I realised it had a preservative in, nitrate something. Could that be why I didn't get into ketosis?

    Your advide would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    How do you know you are not in ketosis and not losing weight? Are you measuring? Remember it may take several days to get into ketosis and not everyone is going to have a big physical reaction so don't let your brain play games with you. Know your plan and stick to it.
    I cannot tell for sure but I don't know that you are eating enough there. Don't try to diet in the sense that you under-eat. Also remember 3 cups of veggies per day. What are you drinking?

      I felt fine and my breath didn't smell any different.

      I'm drinking around 8 glasses of water every day. If I'm hungry, I just eat some cheese.

        Welcome to our international ADBB family

        Are you sticking to the 3-4 ounces maximum of cheese per day?

        There may be nothing wrong in what you are eating - some of us need the full 14 days on induction to start losing fat

        How much weight in total are you hoping to lose?
        Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

          I'm hoping to lose about 3-4 stone. I've already lost 9, but now I'm struggling, so I thought I'd try Atkins and I'm enjoying it!!

          I'm trying to stick to about 3 oz of cheese, but it is hard, as it's the easiest thing to snack on.

          I'm rather worried that I may not be eating enough and that I'm consuming too much protein . Any thoughts?

            Use fitday to figure out how much you eat. It is a great tool. We should aim for 65% fat, 5 % carb and 30% protein. (These are how much calories we are getting from each group)

              I too think your menu looks fine, but it does give the impression of being not too much food. Of course it's hard to know without seeing your quantities, but as Liv says, you can use Fitday as a guide. It's a really useful tool.
              Sometimes it just takes a little while to start burning fat. Or you may be losing inches before the scales catches up.
              Don't get discouraged. It's very early days yet.
