    Hello to everyone in the forum, i have been looking around for a while and i joined the forum today :icondance

    I am on my 2 nd day on the diet and i feel great 238 pounds and want to drop some weight :yikes

    One question i am feeling constipated and i dont know what to take ???

    Welcome!

    You've got your copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR for short, version 2002), right? And you're familiar with the Acceptable Foods list and the Rules of Induction?

    (If not, I urge you to get yourself a copy and read read read! :yes There is no substitute for the real thing when it comes to learning about Atkins, and it's better to have the facts than to go by what someone told you it is about, right?)

    Also, take the time to read the sticky's at the top of the thread list in each forum you go to. Lots of good info there.

    Constipation is dealt with in DANDR and Dr. Atkins recommendation was a tbs of psyllium husks mixed in a large glass of water. Many of us use 1 or two tbs of ground flax instead.
    I found that when I really needed to go, but my body wasn't co-operating, a glycerine suppository worked quickly and helped me a lot.

        Oh awesome, glad you've got the book! :hug

        Lots of folks have the potty troubles with Atkins. If you do a search on constipation here you'll get lots of results.

        Just remember whether you choose to do the psyllium husks, the ground flax, or whatever, make sure you drink lots of water with it.

        I've also heard good things about Benefiber as well.

        I don't like to use a laxative myself because I found I was housebound the next day with cramps and it took a few hours for my body to ..er..cleanse itself. Which is why I liked the suppositories...usually within 15 minutes I'm done....but make sure you're near the bathroom...lol

            welcome to the board rule 12 of induction chapter 11 tells us how to cure the constipation once we get it and the chaopter on fiber tells us who to keep from getting it.

            Flax and psyllium are the low carbers best friend not onluy cause they do add the fiber to go but they can be used as recipes substitiues for flour too check out NAJA's low carb cooking lessons section for so great psyllium recupes and the recipe data base for everything feopm crackers and breads to cereal using flax.
