I never feel bloated from water.
Perhaps you are eating too much salt. Salt will make you retain water.

If you are eating a lot of processed meats or high sodium foods, you are probably retaining the water rather than letting go of it. Go for real meats rather than ham, salamis, bacon, etc. It also takes time for your body to adjust but I am guessing your sodium intake is probably too high. Also bloat is a different feeling from full of water. Women know this well, but as a guy I am not sure if it is bloat or just that water logged feeling you get while your body adjusts. Sorry I am not more helpful.

Gotta chime in on the "too little salt" bandwagon. If you are not eating a lot of processed foods because you are doing Atkins the right way with whole foods, you may not be eating enough salt and when you drink a lot of water, which washes out sodium/salt, your body will hold on to water to keep from losing too much sodium. Your body constantly tries to balance magnesium, sodium and potassium, all of which are soluble in water. While drinking a lot of water is good for weight loss, it does dilute the electrolytes needed to keep your body humming along.

Atkins done right is a diuretic and you will lose enough electrolytes to cause your body to hang on to fluids to keep from losing more. Be sure to take supplements to get them back in balance.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Georgiana, do you mind sharing how you get 200 oz of water in your day? I am up to 80 oz and it is tough to get that down. Eventually, I'd like to do 1 gallon/day. I just don't know how to get there.

You really only need 1/2 your weight in ounces of water. So if you weigh 200 pounds, you should drink 100 ounces of water. Unless you weigh 400 pounds, 200 ounces of water is really overkill.

I find I drink around 180 ounces of water a day. I don't force it, I just feel thirsty. It's not my salt intake, because I stay away from salt and salty foods (processed meats). I use a large water bottle made by Camelbak and it seems very easy to drink from. You get BIG sips and it empties quickly.

First of all, I think drinking 80 oz is okay. Depends of course on how much you weigh, how long you exercise, etc., but the number looks fine to me.

How do I drink 200 oz... About 40-50 oz are drank at the gym or immediately after. The rest are drank while posting on the ADBB. Just kidding. I keep a 33 oz bottle on my desk all the time, refill it during the day... and I sometimes "snack" on water out of boredom.

Oh, and I don't force myself to drink 200 oz, so don't do it either.

                      Hi all,

Im new here and was looking for some advice on water retention etc.
Im drinking about 100 ounces of water a day on average and, like Muzza, I feel quite bloated. Do you know if its worth me taking Water Retention tablets to reduce this?

                      Thanks!

I find that keeping a few bottles of water in the 'frig are a good way to "snack" on water. Everyday when I get home from work, I drink the two 16 oz bottles before dinner. On weekends, I have about 6 bottles in the 'frig. I "snack" on them throughout the day. Now, that it is warming up, the cool water is like having a treat because often I am thirsty and not necessarily hunger.

                        Thanks for the information!

I drink 150 or more a day -- I had what I call "the water jug" from a stay at the hospital...it has ounces and cc/ml on the side so I know how much I'm getting and a lid with a straw. I never go anywhere without it and drink all day.....it's really easy if you just do it a couple days.
