  • 2 week Induction complete - now what?

I've just completed my 2 week induction. Boy how time flies! I've dropped 13.5lbs, -1" from waist and -1" from hips, other measurements went down too a little. My weight has been steadily dropping until this last weekend then it came to a sudden and abrubt hault but then... surprise, surprise ToM showed up today and with that came a 1/2 lb loss <yipee!>. I am going to guess that with ToM knocking on the door may be the reason for the abrubt hault and hopefully now I'll be back to my steady losing pattern <hopefully!>. So now my big question........do I move onto OWL or stay with Induction for a few more weeks?

    Smiles,
    Lisa

Hi Lisa! Congrats on completing Induction! 13.5 pounds is fantastic! Based on the amount of weight you lost during induction I'd say that your not metabolically resistant to weight loss, and that coupled with the fact that you are already down to the 190's makes me suggest that it would be a good idea to move on to OWL. It's been my experience that staying on an extended induction actually slows weight loss (for me anyway) and the extra food choices are a definite bonus which stops me from getting bored and straying from the plan. Just my humble opinion. Hope it helps and Congrats!

congrats on your loss! and for finishing your 2 week induction.

although your post is cause for celebration, i'm going to move this thread to the induction forum where the question of to stay on [extended] induction or move on to owl can be addressed more thoroughly.

There is a Chapter in DANDR devoted to when it is time to move on from the initial two week induction. It is based on how you feel, your food choices, etc..

Best wishes with whatever your decision is.

Re: 2 week Induction complete - now what?

For myself, I do better at OWL 1 or 2 than Induction for a couple of reasons: my body likes the added fiber of the increased veggies. I can have just that little bit wider selection that keeps me from boredom. Adding the dairy at 2 opens up a lot of other recipes that are prohibited on Induction. I have found that at OWL 1 and 2, I generally lose pounds just as quickly as on extended Induction. That is not to say you will continue to lose at the rate you have. The first two weeks are often the most dramatic losses of your entire journey and are frequently followed by a couple weeks stall or slowdown while your body tries to figure things out. If you do move up, remember this and don't blame it on OWL. It happens to many people regardless of whether they stay in Induction or move up. Just don't stay in Induction too long. The purpose of moving up is to teach you little by little what foods you can tolerate and in what amounts. This takes a long time to do it right and if you are losing so quickly already, you will need to start that process soon. Congratulations on a terrific beginning!

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

                Congrats on a great Induction!

Here's my two cents....move up the OWL rungs and find out what works for your body all the while upping your exercise. Enjoy the rush and feeling of accomplishments!

Since you have so much to lose, I would go into extended induction... the faster pace of weight loss will be a great motivator, and then 20 lbs from your goal weight you can start on the OWL ladder... that's how I did it anyway...

I would disagree with waiting till only 20 pounds from goal before moving to OWL as that doesn't allow much time to discover your CCLL and see if any foods affect you adversely.

Also it is much easier to see if your weightloss stalls when adding new foods or more carbs if you still have an appreciable amount of weight to lose. Once your losses slow down it is harder to know if you are losing or not.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
