  • *WATP 3 MILE WORKOUT* And How It Kept Me From Smoking

    Hi Folks, :wave

Well, considering how difficult yesterday was, and it was difficult. But today will be better and has already started out to be.

Like the weather here in New England well, you know what we say "Don't like the weather? Wait a minute it'll change" and that's not a far stretch from the truth.

Back to yesterday, which was my 8th day without a cigarette and I was also up eight pounds which I wrote 6200 posts about and received 450,000 wonderful responses public and private and thank you all for your constant support. Anyway I digress...as usual

But there I was gnashing my teeth till sparks were flying outta my mouth, frustrated and miserable - The perfectly unplanned pity party. Sean had long since had enough of my Jeckle & Hyde - Hyde side and abandoned ship for the day, taking our dog who had had enough of me too along with him. So there I was, just me and Boccie (our cat) who was being careful to avoid me too.

In a moment of madness, I decided if there was ever a time to do Leslie Sansones Walk Away The Pounds three mile workout it was then.

Those of you who recommended WATP to me know that it took me a week to get through the one mile, my first time with the two mile was brutal, at the end I was ready for ICU but I made it and had been doing it for just about a week - but the three mile?...me? impossible,

Well, in went the DVD by the end of the second mile all that anger, all that frustration, all that misery was gone. Thoughts of a cigarette gone along with them.

Into the third mile I'm dyin' but I'm still in it 100% ~ I don't know what's keeping me moving willpower or thinking about how much I wanted to punch Leslie Sandsone.

    I finished the three mile!

It was a triumphant moment, in that one brief sweat covered, hyperventilating moment my life was perfect, the only thing missing - the theme song to Rocky. Amazing what 5 weeks on Atkins has done for me - on every single level.

I suppose the point if there is one, is take whatever you have at any given moment to work this WOL in your favor, inspiration, courage, lack of either, fear, grief, anger - it doesn't matter as long as it keeps you making those right choices.

Hey Peter, you can increase the amount of weight you use to make the workout more intense. For example, if doing the 2 mile is easy with 3 pound weights, bump it up to 4 or 5 pound weights. For outdoor walking, some people put weights into a backpack and wear the backpack while walking to add extra resistance. You could probably do it for the indoor walking too.

By the way, did you get thrown off on the 3 mile when Leslie sets up for leg lifts but then ends up doing kickbacks?

      Megs,

It's funny you mention that, and yes I did. I use 3 pound weights and have a pair of 2 pounds as well - they help a lot. I like Leslie, I wish she'd stop hockin' those damn weighted balls!

She loses concentration and you end up doing 45 minutes of one repetition! Oh well, not a problem the programs got me moving again I can't complain!

PS I actually like the kick backs :yikes

congrats soon you will be an exercise addict looking forward to your daily fix.
Exercise uses up the stress chemicals in a positive way and creates some wonderful brain chemicals too along with upping our metabolism for a period of r time after we are actually done with the workout too.

            Happy low carbing.

                      Hi Everyone, :wave

Just a quick note to say a huge and heartfelt thank you for all your support and kind words of encouragement. Today marks day 12 without a cigarette and the worst part of the physical withdrawal is definitely over.

Nikki - Please wait until your copy of "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" arrives before you buy any kind of Nicotine Replacement Therapy!!! I threw all my gum and patches in the trash. We're addicted to nicotine and getting it from another source won't help us stop smoking - that much I know.

Cigarettes are to a smoker what "works" (syringe, teaspoon & matches) are to a heroin addict. It's not about the cigs it's about the nicotine and it always has been - I don't now much but I know this.

Anyway Nikki, I'm thinking about you and hoping you're hanging in there and just taking it one day at a time.

2Big - Yep I have one of those computer thingies that clocks my progress and money saved, I think it's a great little tool, as of right this second it says:
                      • " I have now stopped smoking for 12 days, 31 minutes, 38 seconds. That translates into 721 cigarettes NOT smoked, for a savings of $189.26! I have increased my life expectancy by 2 days, 12 hours, 6 minutes, 35 seconds."
If anyone wants to set up one of these tickers for yourself just go to www.sharemeter.com

Everyone: Your support, ideas and encouragement has been so invaluable I can't even find the words to tell you, thanks for making it easy to ask for help and thank you for being so generous in offering it.

                      Smoke Free Forever

Peter :hug <--gives you all a huge bear hug!
