  • I ALREADY fell off the wagon. What do i do???

I just recently started induction. I thought i was doing really well because i lost about 8lbs in the first week. I knew i was in ketosis because i had all the symptoms bad breath, irregular bm's, headaches etc. Other than these things, i felt pretty good energywise. Then i was reading a supposed Atkins website that said i could eat the bars in phase 1, which i did, then i found a recipe for macaroons that are supposedly fine for phase 1, this is where things fell apart.
I ate a lot of macaroons which probably made me start craving the sugar.
Tonight i totally caved and went on a binge: peanut butter, ice cream sandwich bar, a hand full of potato chips, pistachios, a blueberry breakfast bar... i think that's it. Now my question is, what do i do??? I never got the book that is recommended, I have a really old one and was getting most of my info off of the web. I also have been taking in a lot of aspartame, something i've read here u should stay away from during induction. So now i'm thinking i should get the book and completely start over, w/out my fake sugars. Am i on the right track here? Or did i somehow sabotage my ketosis completely? Another thing, where do i get the keto sticks?
Anyones advice here would be greatly appreciated.
I think i need a bit of guidance...

    thanks,
    sasha

ps- If a person caves and eats carbs while doing atkins, is their body more likely to turn those carbs into straight fat? Like when u starve yourself, and your body knows it's starving so it hangs onto any fat u give it.
Am i messing up my metabolism when i cave and eat carbs?
Sorry, i'm full of questions and really look forward to some legit advice.

Re: I ALREADY fell off the wagon. What do i do???

Welcome Sasha to ADBB. My first & most important recommendation is to get a 2002 version of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution & read it from cover to cover. In order to "do Atkins"~~change your way of eating you must first understand the basis of low carbing. Secondly I would not rely on the Atkins web site to guide you in this way of eating. After Dr. Atkins died the company made many changes & are not all based on Dr. Atkins work.
Get the book & read it & then do a clean Induction. In the meantime here is a link to some fantastic information~~read it all please.

Atkins Low Carb Dieting - FAQ's - Atkins Diet

There is a wealth of knowledge & support here at ADBB so use it to your advantage. Regarding sugar substitutes Dr. Atkins recommends Splenda & on Induction you are allowed 3 servings. You can buy Ketostix at any pharmacy.

Hope this helps & good luck!

      Sasha,

By binging on carbs you knocked yourself completely out of ketosis.

When you cheat and binge on sugar, it burns the sugar instead of your fat, then if there is any left over it gets turned back into fat. But it will be the first to go as soon as you hop back on the diet...

When you start eating normal low carb foods again, you will have to wait a couple of days to get back into ketosis, just like in the beginning. Basically anytime you cheat you lose anywhere from 1 to 5 days just getting back to where you started from before the cheat...

In order to do a 'clean' induction you need 14 days cheat free... Although I'm assuming when you start again (if it is soon) your weight is going to be lower than when you started last week, so you might not have that huge loss in the beginning.

Aspartame is not recommended because some people think it is bad for you... nothing to do with Atkins or losing weight. There are a lot of products out there that only come with aspartame... I eat them and don't worry about it...

It sounds like you were already in ketosis and doing just fine, so I wouldn't waste money on the sticks. Basically if you have the bad breath, you are in ketosis and your body is burning fat...

Hop back on right away, get the book, and pat yourself on the back for not making it into a month long binge...
