  • Sorry it took so long. . .

    Hi Everyone,
I started looking at this forum about a month ago when I first started Atkins. I've made a few posts, but never really introduced myself. I guess I was a bit shy. I'm hesitant because I don't have a lot of weight to lose. I'm afraid everyone will think I'm out of place for posting at all. But, let me tell you, this eating style has changed my life!

As Usher says, here is my "confession":
My starting weight a month ago was 129. Iam 5ft 5 inches tall
I went down to 123 (122 for a day) and fell off a couple of days. I'm now at 126. I have weighed up to 152 pounds at one point in my life, but thankfully, only for a few months.
I started this plan as an experiment of sorts. I gained a few pounds since getting married this summer and wanted to try something. To my surprise, I felt great!!!! I suffer from (self diagnosed) low blood sugar. I used to get very SUDDEN hunger pangs accompanied by exhaustion. My friends in high school used to make a joke and rush to the nearest store whenever I mentioned being hungry. They even started to keep food int he car for me when I got hugry. My hunger was always followed by an "attitude problem" My new husband even carries "be quiet bars" with him when we go out because I drive him crazy!!
Well . . . All that is over. My blood sugar is so even. No more sluggishness. Instead of collapsing after work, I'm just getting my second wind!
My husband is even going to give this eating style a try! He is very athletic and in great shape. He feels he could lose a few pounds( 5 maybe), and I have convinced him of what a healthy eating style this is.
We used to always make jokes about how "low carb" crazy the world was getting. But after reading the book (in one sitting) I understand why.
So, what started as an experment has become a huge change.
Thanks to all for the support and great posts!
(Sorry this was so long, but thanks for letting me get it all out there)

I think the wonders the low carb/Atkins can do in addition to weight loss is amazing. I am glad you are seeing all the benefits of the WOE, and getting your blood sugar and hunger under control is a huge step. Good job!!

Everything is relative. One person's desire to lose 5 pounds is as valid as someone's desire to lose 100.

The one thing that you have to keep in mind is that the closer you are to your goal weight, the slower the weight will come off. You'll read about people losing 5 or 8 or 15 or more pounds in the first week of Induction, and it's all relative to how much weight they need to lose.
If you haven't already read the stickys, please read them! This one in particular may help as well:

Good job on reading the book, and thats so great that the two of you are doing this together. :icondance
It does make a lot of sense, that's for sure. I know that for myself, giving up sugar and increasing my water intake has given me health benefits that I never dreamed of (clear skin, sleeping better, and I also would have low blood sugar episodes to the point I couldn't see properly, and that's a thing of the past now)

And more on the low blood sugar episodes...I can SO relate to you on that! I would get shaky, sweaty, and disoriented, and bf knew to find me food FAST when I would mention to him that I was starting to feel weird. He knew that I wouldn't be able to make a decision on what to eat when I got to that point, so he would always do that for me. It was nuts, and I'm glad those days are past.
