  • starting induction (a few questions)

    Hi all,

I must admit I have been lurking around this forum for a while, collecting information and trying to decide if Atkins is right for me. I have been inspired and amazed by so many of the success stories that I have seen that I bought and read the book this week. I have every intention of being successful but I have a few questions. I live in dorms at my university and have very little control over the food served at the dining halls. I know that eating three meals is essential but I don't have time for breakfast or am limited to a choice of eggs. Does anyone have advise about what else would be a quick meal in the morning. (that could be done without the use of a stove?) ensive I am considering trying the morning start bars but I have read some posts saying that they aren't great. I would appreciate any advice or comments.

    Thanks,
    Elizabeth

Are you allowed to keep a refrigerator in your dorm room? (I had one in mine when I was in college.)

If you are, you can keep a stock of deli meats (make sure you read the ingredients and the nutritional info to make sure they comply with Atkins), a jar of mayo, assorted fresh veggies (celery, cucumbers, etc.) a jar of dressing, cheese, etc. In your closet you can store cans/packets of tuna, chicken, turkey.

If you have a hot pot (and I'm pretty sure you do), you can boil up a dozen eggs and store those in your refrigerator.

Anyhow, in the morning, you can spread a slice of two of deli meat with cream cheese, add some chopped veg (celery, cucumber, whatever), roll it up and eat. If you have a microwave available to you, you can make scrambled eggs, or nuke bacon for a 'BLT'---bacon and tomato wrapped in lettuce leaves, etc. You can also make the "mock danish" if you have a microwave handy.

Breakfast doesn't have to be what we traditionally think of as breakfast food so think outside of the box. I often have leftovers from the night before. We frown on shakes and bars as they stall weight loss in lots of folks. Even if you don't have a refrig, you could swing by the store the night before and get some cheese, like cream or string and put it in a thermos bag. Check out the list of snacks and see if that doesn't help you with some ideas.
Keep us informed and let us know how your doing.
