  • Bacon with dextrose

    Hi all,

I'm on my 3rd day of induction phase and noticed that the bacon I've been eating contains a small amount of dextrose. I knew that bacon had a very small amount of carbs which I'm counting (mine is .3g per slice) but now I'm worried I shouldn't be having it at all. What is the public opinion on this?

If the dextrose is near the end of the list, it means that the amount is tiny and it's okay. If it's near the top of the list, look for another brand.

Gwaltney has a delicious sugar free bacon. Look for the one that says "sugar free" on the front of the package.

The way we react to even small amounts of sugar varies from person to person. I stall if I eat anything that has sugar in it, be it store-bought mayo, bacon, cold cuts...

Thanks for the replies. I went to the supermarket today - it took over an hour and I didnt come home with very much! I looked at every single bacon and ham product available and there are none that do not contain dextrose, and only 2 brands didn't have sugar. I suspect this is because New Zealand bacon is not made the same way as american bacon. I'm still losing at a rapid rate so I guess its probably ok. The one I bought has 0.2g carbs per 3 slices and has no sugar so I'm going to stick with this one. It actually looks a lot tastier than the last lot!
