  • Please be careful when on Induction

Today I lived through Day 14 but had a scare and it's my own fault

So posting for others who are starting so they can take care.

The rules of induction state DO NOT go for prolonged period of waking hours without eating. (I think it's 4 I don't have the book right now)

I had to work alot today (thank you whoever writes computer WORMS) but anyway I had a 2 egg cheese omelete for breakfast at 6:30am. Then got sucked into work and started to get dizzy around 3PM and I was pretty sure I was close to fainting, and I was starting to get twitches.

I barely could drive myself to get food, I was unprepared, even after I ate what I normally would eat I was still feelnig sick. I went to the doctor and my blood sugar was 75 AFTER A MEAL !! which means pre-meal GOD KNOWS how low it could have been.

They gave me some cube sweet thingies they give people with Hypoglycemia and I got up in the upper 80s within about an hour and I went home.

The doctor reminded me that while on a Ketogenic diet our glycogen levels are very low so skipping meals and waiting too long to eat is a big NO NO.

Be careful don't learn the hard way it's no Joke.

My doctor knows I am pre-diabetic for Type 2 so he supports the Low Carb Lifestyle for my obesity and to stave off Type 2. Just FYI for any obese type 2 folks who read this. It's helping me alot I have not had a HIGH sugar reading since I've started.

Take care and God Bless !!

That sounds very scary! I get a bit woozy and extremely cranky when I go too long without food but not to the extreme you have described....glad you are okay now!

Great point! I've been caught in that situation before--- I went so long that I got woosy while driving and bumped into the car in front of me (which has never happened to me in my life!) Luckily, no damage was done, and I ate a lovely chicken salad shortly after!

One member used to have the signature quote
Failing to plan is planning to fail
which I have always agreed is a good 'mantra'.

Try to organise an 'emergency pack' with a few 'legal' snacks and some water so you can avoid going too long before eating.

Now I am no longer on induction I carry with me at all times a small (ex-mints) plastic container which holds exactly one ounce of unsalted almonds so if I feel I need to eat I can.

When I was on induction I used to make cheese 'crackers' which I kept in a small airtight box in the car. Or if out and about without my crackers I would detour into a grocery shop or supermarket and buy a small packet of cheese or ham and a few mushrooms to nibble on.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

What a good idea - I will remember that for when I get onto the nut rung. Only problem is - what to do with the mints to get the empty container? I think I know the brand of mints you mean - will have to look for a volunteer to eat them!
