  • Slightly angry at myself

Ok to start off, I am 17 years old, 6'3, and weigh about 265. I did atkins maybe a year ago, at this same weight. Im not really sure if you could call it atkins, but I just stopped eating bread and sugar and soda. In a period of about 3 months, I dropped down to 225. I was really happy. However, I stopped this. I was never really eating excessively (at least, I thought I wasnt), but I have almost gained all the weight back. I look at my drivers license picture from then and I am like holy cow. I definitely want to start up again, because it felt great having 40lbs off of me. I plan to start totally clean tomorrow. I tried it today, but it seems like everytime I try to start I find something to eat that messes me up. It was never this hard before :no

You know, every day is a new day and a brand new chalkboard to write on. Sounds lame, but it's totally true.

If I were you, I'd try to self-analyze what's going on with myself that wasn't necessarily going on before when you lost weight, you know? That sometimes helps me figure out the emotional part of it.

Don't feel bad. Do what you gotta do. Have your acceptable foods on hand, prepare, prepare, prepare. You'll be fine, look you came here and seeking some support and thats a good sign, now Atkins like anything in life when applied correctly is 50% you and 50% the other half. Now, don't trip because at least you are willing and if yesterday didn't work out like you wanted, oh well theres always tomorrow and take an honest inventory of what you did wrong. Stay strong :guns !!!!

aqueous. It could be that you expect to fail, or you really just aren't ready to take that step.

Clean out the pantry and be ready for this way of eating. Take it a minute at a time if you have to, but you've got to want this.

        Do you want this?

I think you do, or you wouldn't be here! Remember, every day you remain true to this WOE is one day closer you are to being addiction-free! And you remember what a great feeling that is!

And try to plan your eating in advance to lessen the chances of making snap (wrong) decisions.
Many of us enter each day's menus into www.fitday.com to work out our carb counts and make sure we know what foods will keep us to the rules.
Another good idea would be to go to the 'wallet sized list of acceptable foods' at the beginning of this forum and print out a few copies to have handy when shopping or ordering food.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

            aqueous,

WELCOME back to Atkins. Make sure you read the book Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, edition 2002. You can get it at Walmart for $5.99. It is worth every penny.

Do the clean induction, make sure you have lots of "induction" foods on hand for times when you are tempted. Drink lots of water, take supplements to supply your body with vitamins to keep it working correctly. Exercise to make your mind and body feel good and get your metabolism burning fat.

Read the forums here in the ADBB for lots of inspiration and to keep motivated. For encouragment, go to the Loser's Lounge and the Before/After photos of people who are making it happen. If you need any help, just ask!! Everyone here is more than willing to help.

2nd day - for some reason Im up to 268. Yesterday for breakfast I ate 2 hard boiled eggs. Lunch was some ham and a piece of kielbasa sausage. Dinner was tri tip steak. Hows that sound for a day?

You got the meat part down, but where's your veggies?! Did you drink at least 64 oz of water?

Someone's already asked, but I'll ask too...have you read the book? Have you checked out the FAQ forum here?

Atkins is a whole lot more than avoiding bread and just eating meat, and it's important for you to educate yourself on the proper way of doing this. You're still a growing teen and also, if this is the start of learning good eating habits, you want to know all you can so you do it right, yes? :yes

Just remember Cabbage is on the "one cup if salad veggies don't exceed 2 cups" list!

I need to ask too...did you read the book? YOu NEED that acceptable foods list and the Rules of Induction to at least physically be doing this right!

                    Good luck!

                      Hi Aqueous,

You've gotten some excellent advice from people who are living examples of how well this WOL works. That's something I think you already know having tried it a year ago.

Like you, I tried Atkins in the past but many years ago - and I knew without a single doubt it was the best possible thing I could have done for my health, not to mention I lost over 40 pounds, However I strayed far from course, gained the weight back and an additional 30 to keep it company.

Some lessons are harder learned than others.

That said, you've made a terrific start by just deciding to get back on the horse and ride - and by posting here on ADBB. But I do want to urge you to do every single thing you can to ensure your success and that begins with reading the 2002 version of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution ~ known around here as simply DANDR.

It's that important, without the book as your resource and constant guide make no mistake, you will fail - period.

If you have the book great, ignore the above advice, if you don't make sure you pick up a copy ASAP.

With your determination, your young age on your side and the support you'll find here on this board 24/7 365 days a year - you'll be a great success. Atkins can and will enhance and improve every single aspect of your being, reaching your goal weight will seem more like an added bonus than anything else.

Read the book, stay the course and you'll be just fine.

                      Peter ha

                        you can do it

now you know that there are certain foods you need to avoid because you gain weight on them.

this is probably a lifetime thing. just love yourself enough to remove the problem foods from your life.

you are ahead of the game because you know what is causing the problem. with atkins you have a blueprint of what to do to counter the troublesome foods and you have a whole forum of wonderful friends to support you. that weight you gained will disappear lickety split if you stick to atkins rules from now on. forget the past - just start from now. we always start from now.

you are lucky to have this insight at 17, instead of 46. you will do well.
