  • Drinks with Splenda

    Hi all,

Today I finally found the only brand of soda sweetened with Splenda in NZ that doesn't contain fruit juice. While it's not what I'm used to, it was great to go to a party today and not have to drink water. For any locals who are looking, the Pak n Save's Diet Spree Lemonade and Diet Classic Cola both use Splenda.

I have one question about these drinks and Splenda in general. The book states that splenda contains 1g of carbs per packet. The labels on the drinks state that the lemonade has 0g of carbs and the cola has 0.36g of carbs. Does this mean I can drink more of the lemonade or are there other factors?

Granular Splenda does indeed contain approximately 1 g of net carbs per packet. However, liquid Splenda has zero carbs. Despite this, both liquid and granular sweeteners should be counted towards your sweetener intake, which is limited to three servings per day. Since there is no way to know the type of Splenda used, it is best to count 1 serving (8 oz) of sweetened beverage as 1 serving of sweetener.
