Never had a headache from Splenda. If you're looking for a natural alternative, you could use Stevia.

By the way, don't forgot the limit for sweeteners -- 3 servings per day.

I had splenda for the first time yesterday, no problems with a headache but I noticed that later in the day I started craving sweets. I never had a problem with craving sweets before I started Atkins so I am going to limit myself to one of those drinks per day max. I also felt really dehydrated after drinking but looking at the label that was more likely because of sodium!

What drink did you have? Even if it is sweetened with Splenda, you should count 8 oz of beverage as one serving of sweetener. Sweeteners are limited to three servings per day.

If Splenda gives you cravings and makes you feel dehydrated (could be because of caffeine if you had coke), stop having it all-together. Those drinks have a lot of crap in them anyway, so you are really losing nothing by ditching them. From your ticker you seem to be doing great. Don't risk screwing your results for some sweet drink. It's totally not worth it!

        Good luck to you.

          Re: Splenda cause Headaches???

Hello, i have latley discuss .. this issue about splenda and artificial sweetners and all its side effects on using it on short term or long term ( as a short- term using as u just said headache .. sweet carving .. heart pumping faster ) ...

for me yes it causes headache and migraine +++ it makes me gain weight the most bothring thing and also as u said .. makes me carving sweet

so, i have discuss this also with my dr. and he said i can use natural organic suger the brown suger or caianne suger im afraid i spell it righ the natural one unrefined ...

1tps contain = 4 carb and its okay to be use with atkins ... and i only use one small tps just to little sweeten my coffee (note for me i dont like my coffee too sweet i like the soure and bitter taste of the coffee.. thats me i like the coffee taste so 1 small sp just to break the bitterness a little bit )

about Stevia im afraid its not availabe always ... and its also artificial so better go for the natural things and organic always the best !!

I seems to me like your doctor did not read DANDR. Sugar of any kind (organic, brown, white or whatever color) is not allowed on Atkins.

Stevia is a natural sweetener. You can either buy it either as a sweetener (SweetLeaf has only inulin as a bulking agent) or as a plant. If you use the plant, here's how to make your own sweetener from the leaves: Home & Garden :: Stevia: A Natural (and Unknown) Sweetener :: Farmers' Almanac

I had a local lemonade drink (very salty) and a cola drink. It was the first "sweet" drink I've had. I've never liked artificially sweetened drinks because of the aftertaste. The lemonade was vile but the cola is ok.

I've put one can in the fridge for today to experiment, if I get cravings again I'll stop it. I don't use sweeteners in other drinks so I haven't had much experience with them as yet. The taste is probably not worth it regardless! Thanks for the support!
