  • Starting Induction

Well, it's been a long time since I've had the right mind set to attempt this again. I tried so many times and failed. I even got a friend to start with me last year and she kept going and lost over 50lbs and I just kept quitting . so now I am ready again. I started today but I did have a bit of a problem with the coffee. I have a serious addiction to flavored coffees. So even though I ate the right things, I had a toffee nut chocholate mocha to help me wake up this morning. Im pretty sure that's not ok. So I will try again tomorrow. I figure I just need to go cold turkey and suffer through the headaches for a week or two. I can't be the only who has dealt with this, any suggestions?

Sassy - the best piece of advise I can give you is to throw the flavored coffee away -- try decaf w/splenda and cream instead - or better yet plain decaf. You can also have decaf hot tea in place of the coffee but be careful of the flavored ones also.

I hope you can find the willpower to do the program the correct way - it works and once you get the first couple clean days under your belt it is such a wonderful way of eating (WOE). Good luck

Sometimes it's better to quit the caffeine (expect headache for 2-3 days) and THEN start the diet... that way you aren't getting a double whammy... Also once you are off the coffee your cravings will be less making the diet easier to stay on...

I had to give up hot chocolate which I started every day with for years... I didn't think I could do it... but I wanted to be healthy more than I wanted the hot chocolate, and now I'm so glad I did it.

Thanks for everyones comments. Excellent idea on stopping caffeine first then moving on to the diet. I think I will take that approach so I don't feel so deprived all at once.

Just wondering if that Toffee Nut Mocha is from Starbucks??? If so a Grande has about 390 calories in it. I know how addicting they can be....I love the toffee nut flavoring.

As an alternative to these sugary sweet drinks - after I stopped working at Starbucks and could not afford $4 a day for a drink - I made regular coffee and added cinnamon to the coffee before it brewed. Since starting Atkins I have stopped drinking coffee, and for the most part, diet soda, too. I did get a bit of a headache but it passed and to date I have lost 13 lbs!

Good luck - and having gone through the addiction to flavored coffee drinks, I suggest that you not have them anymore, cold turkey!
