  • Just a couple questions!

Hi, my name is Jeannette and I'm starting Induction today. To that end, I have a couple questions (yes I have, and am, reading the book - I'm at part II).

    1. How often and at what time(s) should you check for ketosis?

    2. While I'm not a great fan of Atkins' bars I do like their shakes. There seems to be some controversy over whether they should be used on Induction, but Dr. Atkins himself advises to stock up on the carb controlled products available today before starting Induction so my 2nd question is what do y'all think about using the shakes occasionally (generally on Tuesday when I play golf. I need something I can down between the 1st and 2nd nine)?

Though I'm oficially starting Induction today, I've actually been doing Atkins since last Wednesday. Last Tuesday I had a Mexican food meltdown, and made the decision the next day to commit to Atkins. To date I've lost 6 lbs. and am in ketosis.

    Re: Just a couple questions!

You said the magic word about shakes and such, 'occasionally.' In reading the book it is clear the Dr. did not want us to rely on these for nutrition, but as an occasional means to stay on plan.

When I did use sticks, once a day is quite adequate and it really doesn't matter what time of day. Keep in mind, they are pricey.. so if you know you ate today pretty much like you ate yesterday.. and yesterday you were in ketosis... do you need sticks to say 'yes, you are in ketosis?' You could spend that money on yummy fresh greens and sirloin! Save sticks for when you are making adjustments in your diet. No need to use them in normal 'course of business.'

    Much success to you!

Many members on ADBB experience a stall in their weight loss when consuming Atkins products, i.e. shakes, bars or both. So how often you choose to have the shakes depending on how often you are willing to consume a food item that has the potential to sabotage your weight loss efforts. What Dr. Atkins wrote is that
