  • Over eating/Munching !! ?

Im going on 3rd day and i tell ya get hungry- munchie -taste cravings like MAD!!!

I Have pork Grinds and Pickled eggs and Cracklins (pork grinds uncooked) Deli Turkey and so on to snack on here and there , But yesterday i think i ate a whole bag of pork grind cracklins mix , which is like 16 servings!
    At 11% fat per serving!
But my carb intake was 9 grams yesterday.

Here is what i can remember eating yesterday.
Breakfast - 2eggs Scram with a slice of cheddar, 3 Sausage Links.
Lunch - Double whopper with cheese extra leaf, Hold the bun, No Catsup (5 carbs).
Pork Grinds/Cracklins variously, a pickled egg, 2 deli slices of turkey wrapped around a peice of pepper jack cheese.
    Dinner - 5 0z steak . ranch , jalepenos. (3.5 - 4.0 carbs)
I think maybe some more pork grinds before bed.

Also throughout the day when i crave something sweet a take a drink of a diet rite, i take drinks throughout the day to make one can last all day.

I'm drinking more then 80oz of water everyday.

I have to use the bathroom like every HOUR!
Almost reminds me a of intestinal flu.

Today im trying to have a little more control.
I had deli turkey for breakfast heated up with a peice of cheese and 1/2 tbs (not even) Italian dressing
I ate half my a 5 oz steak ranch jalepeno (i like steak!) 1cup spaghetti squash, I ate enough to make me satisfied then saved it about 2 or 3 hours later i ate the rest to try control my cravings.
I have only had 2 pickled eggs and maybe 2 handfuls of pork rinds.

Anyways I think its in my head and im telling myself i want something to eat and im telling myself i want taste and its one of the hardest addictions i have ever faced !

When i was young i did recreational drugs, smoked pot for about 7 years stopped cold turkey.
I smoked ciggerretes for 15 years stopped in 3 days its been 6 years!

So am i overdoing the snacking and eating throughout this induction.
The books are kinda yes & no , one part says eat when your hungry another part says eat 5 small portions a day.
So i kinda feel guilty at the same time and kinda confused whether i should feel guilty then stressed out , and then i start munching !

    Thanks Take Care

No you are doing fine. It is very normal to feel this kind of hunger the first few days. It will settle down once ketosis sets in. So don't be afraid to eat.
I would try to have "cleaner" snacks. Meat left overs are good - so is boiled eggs. I love boiled eggs Tuna with mayo. What you are doing is eating processed and very salty food. Try to limit those. But pork rinds are legal.

The deli tuna - may contain sugar (they usually do) so I would worry a bit about that one.

Also keep working in those healthy vegetables. Eat three cups every day.

Good luck. You are on the right track.

      Hi Ted,

Saw your post - sounds like you are having a bad old time of it - so thought I would write back immediately.

I must admit, I would not go for the pork grinds (probably because of salt content)- but if it's working for you and keeping you at it, stay with them for now.

I am only a few days further along than you, so am no expert, but I can reassure you that the hunger symptoms will ease very quickly. Things that worked for me were eggs and cheese - their high fat content kept the pangs away.

I don't know if you know, but sometimes the brain signals for thirst can get confused with those for hunger. So if you are really climbing the walls, try a large glass of water and see what happens.

Regarding taste, I found that beef slices spread with cream cheese and then a LOT of black pepper, then rolled up, really hit the spot for the taste cravings.

But you are absolutely right, what you are feeling are the symptoms of withdrawal, so draw on your experience of giving up the cigs and the hash - keep reminding yourself of the very positive thing you are doing for your health.

It will get better, very soon, I promise.

The lunch meat rolls with pepper jack are delicious but made me stall
I would try to stay away from the whopper stuff lol. You might be tempted to get some fries with that bad boy Sounds good, though.

Your appetite will come down. No worries.

Ted -- since you are having trouble remembering what you eat daily it might be a good idea for you to use www.FitDay.com or another logging program to keep track of your food. It's very important that you keep your totals to 20 carbs or less during induction.

I'm happy you are drinking water -- Dr. Atkins said AT LEAST 64 ounces a day of clear water so you are getting enough water in.

Have you measured yourself to begin with?

Are you exercising? That's another thing you need to do. When I first started I could barely walk to the end of the block and back, 3 months later I ride a stationary bike at least 10 miles a day (usually 15 miles and once this week 20 miles) and walk at least 2 miles a day. I also have several exercise DVD's waiting for me to start. When the scales refuse to budge I can go to the measuring tape and see results.

I wish you much luck -- my suggestion is to keep track of your food more carefully.

              Re: Over eating/Munching !! ?

Im going to try an alternative to the pork rinds or try limit myself to no more then 2 handfuls a day.

Well maybe i think im gonna try to stay away from the cheese during this induct.

I walk 3 miles and walk these Steps 5 times 5 days a week.

Im staying under the 20 carbs a day definitely !
Sometimes when i was pre testing this induction food ,i could stay under 10 grams.

The whopper thing was awesome, im gonna start making my own hamburger salad with lettuce and veggies and Mayo OMG its so good !

Thanks for the support and listening to the random venting :P

              Take care

I've read some while ago on the Board that during the Duke study, Dr. Atkins was limiting pork rinds to 1 cup per day. You might want to use that as your limit too.

Don't deprive yourself of a "legal" food as long as you don't have a problem eating it. It will only reduce your food choices and make you more prone to cheating. Just stick to max. 3-4 oz, as the book says.

I can't see the picture ("Access denied" error), but good for you to get some exercise in.

As long as you're eating 3 cups of vegetables and over half of your net carbs come from veggies, then you're doing things right. It's (almost) impossible to reach 20 net carbs if you are following the rules of Induction.

The whopper thing was awesome, im gonna start making my own hamburger salad with lettuce and veggies and Mayo OMG its so good!
That sounds good. And it's also a great way to get your veggies in.
