  • veggie question

hi all my names melissa and ive been looking at the board but this is my first post, im about 5 days into induction. Anyways.... (i've looked around but not found the answer) i know that you are supposed to get your veggies in either 3 c of salad or 2c and 1 cup other acceptable veggie right? well i was wondering if u have room in your carbs can u have more. Like i had a big salad for lunch but on fitday i put in my day (just to see) with that and a veggie at dinner and still only at about 15 carbs... it seems ok but i just wanna make sure because i am not too clear on it. thanks

    Re: veggie question

Yep, it's okay to be below 20 carbs -- Dr. Atkins wrote we should eat no more than 20 g. During Induction, you should stick to 3 cups and choose your other foods in such a way that over half of your net carbs come from vegetables.

You said 15 carbs... are those net or total carbs? By DANDR, we are supposed to count net carbs.

FitDay lists total carbs and dietary fiber. You'll have to do the math to get the net carbs.

            Re: veggie question

It's okay to eat more veggies as long as you are counting the carbs in eggs, cheese, cream, Splenda, avocado, sour cream, olives, cream cheese, etc. The reason the veggies don't add up to 20 grams is so you have room for the tasty foods that are legal, but also have some carbs.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

thanks a lot that helps - yah i am counting the carbs in eggs chees etc- it seems hard for me to eat a variety of things but i still feel enough. im really just trying to stay away fram any dressings other than oil and vinegar, put mayo on a few things and cook with oil or butter- other than that im gonna use caution with sauces and such for now. also i feel like i am eating all day but olny at about 1500 calories..i know we dont have to count calories per say but is this enough?

mtothek -- there is no reason you can't have ranch dressing or any dressing that has 2 carbs per serving on your salads -- it may also help you get closer to your 20 carbs per day and it's another fat for you to count.
