  • For people doing Induction.

    Hi all,

I am on my 7th Day of Induction and am getting a little discouraged as everybody seems to be losing enormous amounts of weight!
I was wondering if others out there doing the induction, especially those who are losing a fair amount of weight could give me a rough idea of what foods you are eating in a day (maybe amounts if thats not too much trouble)?

I'm just curious to see if i,m doing something wrong or if i,m just a slow loser?

    Thanks heaps

    Re: For people doing Induction.

J dont worry! everybody is different so some people doing atkins may a have better reaction than others. Always is better cook the meals by yourself as there is a lot of hide carbs in some product as sausages( ready to eat meats at the supermarket). Try to dont drink diet coke or even tea. as it's only 14 days u should make the effort to drink just water and after u may add tea and some other drinks. Im skinny so anyway I should be taking longer than other people to lose weight, thats another good reason: people with overweight will lose faster weight than those who doesnt need it.
try 3 eggs at breakfast with some decaff tea and no more than 2 spoons of sweetener as ever spoon counts as 1 of ur 20 allowed carbs. try 3 pieces of chicken with broccoli and water for lunch and some huge fish or steak with water for dinner. ITS ONLY 14 DAYS J, AFTER WHEN U ENTER IN KETOSIS EVERYTHING YOU CAN ADD LITTLE NICE CHANGES, WHEN U THINK U WILL GIVE UP THINK : ITS JUST 14 DAYS AND AFTER I WILL HAVE MORE FUN..
Hellow!!! so happy to be here with all of u and knowing we have a common porpouse, that make things to much easier hehe lets kick once for all that naughty kilos....

My name is Andrea, Im 25, height 172 cms, actual weight 56 and my goal is to lose 1 stone (6 kilos) ... I know it will take a while as i love food and Im not overweight... but dreaming to come back to my old weight: 50.

Beginning on the 20 of April, so it make this my first day... every day i will be here giving u news about what i have eaten and sport done.

      Re: For people doing Induction.

it depends on how much you have to lose, if you're eating correctly and drinking enough water. you generally lose between 5-10% of what you need to lose on induction. An even if you do everything correctly everyone is different and you can't compare yourself to someone else. I think I lost 14lbs on induction the first time I did it. This time around, I lost about 8 the first week, then started gaining and the 2nd and 3rd week were bizzare i went up from 216 back to 220 while doing everything right. Its totally normal and by the end of the month I was back down to 211

            Re: For people doing Induction.

            Hi again,

I weigh 78kg and want to lose 10 kg. I know that doesn't sound a lot but i was up to 91 kg's but lost 12 kilo's through my job, not dieting.
I started Atkins because i love meat, cheese and eggs and have never been a "sweet" person. My down fall was beer!
Over the last 15 years I have never been able to get under the 78 kg mark, i have tried WW, Jenny Craig etc.... but the scales will not shift.
As i live in a tropical area i have always drunk at least 6 - 8 litres of water a day (Have to or would die of dehydration).
My diet at the moment on average is:
Breakfast - 2 boiled eggs or 2 eggs scrambled with a tiny amount of cheddar cheese and a small portion of mushrooms.
Lunch - 1/3 Chicken (Lunch is hard because i,m always on the run)
Dinner - T-bone steak/fish/chicken with a cup of lettuce, mayonnaise and a small amount of mushrooms (If i havent had any in the morning) cooked in butter and a smakk knob of blue vein cheese.
I don't have snacks as i,m not hungry enough. I do make sure i eat within 6 hours of each meal and i do take a multi vitamin.

            Thanks guys
            J

              Re: For people doing Induction.

Your food choices seem fine - but it looks to me as if you are short of the 3 cups of veg which you could have. Possibly you could also have more cheese if you like - up to 3 to 4 ounces is allowed.

Well done on the water drinking many of our members find that is the hardest part of following Atkins.

As Kibskix said, a loss of between 5% and 10% over the whole first 14 days on induction is 'normal'.

So for you a loss of between 500 grams and one kilogram would be 'normal'.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I started about 1 1/2 weeks ago..... I lost 12 pounds so far.....

Here is what I do and I'm very comfortable with ....

Breakfast - 2 eggs and 2 turkey franks cut in 4 pieces (fried)

Lunch - tuna salad or egg salad

Dinner - Grilled chicken (2 leg thighs) or Turkey same portions with 1 cup

                of veggies (usually cut greens)

I've always been a water drinker - so I continue with that.

                hope that helps...

Are you following DANDR, 2002? Because the foods are "legal", but you are missing 2 cups of vegetables.

Hi Georgina, hope everything is going good for u.

Some people talk about losing tones of weight, I am 56 kg and 1.72 m and my goal is 50. just have been 4 days in atkins. How long should it be before I star losing some weight? at the moment I have achieved nothing but hopefully soon, I understand Im skinny so it may take longer for me than for other people...Im dress size 6-8 UK and 2-4 american...before i did atkins and I was in 0 but no idea if it will work again as i stopped atkins for a while after my husband died and my goal is become again 0. In my first time doing atkins i took diet coke and wasnt a problem at all ( as i take just 1 glass a day).

Thanks for ur posts, i read them during the last days and they have helped me lots.

Those people who lose a "tones" of weight during Induction typically have a lot to lose. At the end of the two weeks, one can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight they want to get rid of. So if one has 50 lbs to lose, they should expect a loss of ~5 lbs. If someone has 12-13 lbs to lose, as you do, then that's about 1 lbs.

How long it will take... It really depends. But since you are already slim, it will take longer than for someone who is overweight. To get into ketosis, one needs roughly 2-4 days. During these first days, one will see the scale go down rapidly, because water weight will also come off as the body is burning through its glycogen stores. So if one loses, let's say, 10 lbs in the first week, it does not mean that person lost 10 lbs of fat -- part of that weight was just water. You probably don't don't have much water weight or fat to begin with.

Remember we are supposed to be getting 'most' of our net carbs on induction from our veggies.

So by limiting yourself to just one cup with maybe 1 or 2 net carbs depending on the veg you choose you will be depriving yourself as you ought to be having about 1 more net carb in the way of eggs, cheese, cream etc if you are sticking to the 'most of' rule.

You are allowed up to 3 cups of veg on induction. This could work out to nearer 10 net carbs if you choose your veg carefully, allowing you to have another up to 9 net carbs from eggs, cheese, cream or even your allowed special category 1/2 an avocado!

No - the 1/2 avocado is allowed in addition to the 'up to 3 cups' of veg.
