ok so ive seen a lot of questions about what to drink on here but i havent really found a satisfing answer lol. im about day 7 of induction- drinking water like crazy... so much that sometimes i think i could not drink anymore. So my question is - i can find diet coke with splenda but not caffiene free... i can find sugar free caffiene free other drinks but made with aspartame . ahhhh. i know it can make ppl stall - so do you just have to see what happens? also i am still having a constant headache.. day 7 it should hopefully be leaving soon... right?

Yes, your headache should go away soon - make sure you avoid Excedrin (sp?) as it contains caffeine. (I made that boo-boo day 2 ). Once you've beat the caffeine thing - it'll be for good! Hang in there!

That's because most drinks and their effects have varying degrees of impact depending on each individual's body so you encounter a wide range of opinions on what's actually safe. For instance, some people react poorly to caffeine, it may cause a spike in the production of insulin or cravings to eat...so it's suggested to avoid caffeine. Other people, like myself, tolerate a little caffeine just fine and don't experience cravings from drinking it. It's the same case with sweeteners like aspartame; it's not something which comes recommended, because it might trick your body into treating it like actual sugar, but again...results vary. To be on the safe side, and to follow the official Atkins program, avoid both. Splenda is not considered as devious as aspartame, so it's the "safer" of the two, but you have to limit your intake just the same. There's only so much "sweetener" you're supposed to have per day (and ideally none). Check with those who are well-versed in the latest Atkins revision (i.e. Georgiana) and keep in your mind the ultimate goal of breaking free of both caffeine and sweeteners.

you are allowed 3 packets of Splenda per day according to Dr. Atkins. Good luck

try floating lemon or lime in the water -- or after you have drank your water allowance for the day have a glass of ice tea (decaf of course) or hot tea (once again decaf). Pure water is the best thing - try to avoid soda if you possibly can -- you THINK you need soda .... it isn't necessary to a healthy life. During induction you are trying to break addictions - give it a chance, you'll be amazed how much better feel. The headaches should go away anytime now.

aspartame is poison! It would be better to go without sweetening anything. My family got very very sick years ago after we switched to using aspartame instead of real sugar. You can find loads of info on the net on the truth about aspartame ("sweet poison").

The Schweps company (makers of Dr Pepper) make Diet Rite - there is no sodium, no caffeine and it's made with Splenda. It comes in different flavors and tastes pretty good.

The reason we are told to drink at least 64 ounces of water is because we are breaking addictions to sugars, foods. For 14 days Dr Atkins asks us to give up our addictions to give our bodies a chance to heal by replacing all the junk we have eaten with good foods. There is a list of what is acceptable to drink and nothing else. During those 14 days we find out what type of a looser we will be and loose the largest percentage of weight at one time. Give your body the benefit of the doubt and stay away from soda's until your induction is over.

And speaking of diet sodas . . .I ordered one today, the first one I've ordered from a fountain dispenser in months, and I couldn't drink it! It just didn't taste good to me at all. I buy Diet Rite at our local WalMart and might have one every week or so. It's gotten so that I wake up thirsty - for water!

Good for you -- that's the best thing you can drink. I'm the same way - in 3 months I've opened 3 cans & drank the equivalent of maybe a half can between the 3 of them....it just doesn't taste good anymore.
