  • Chinese Food!!!

I'm dying for some chinese food. I think the problem lies in that it would probably be very difficult to find out which dishes don't have any sugar.
Any suggestions? I'm sure I can ask when I order but didn't know if there was some sort of Atkins favorite.

    Re: Chinese Food!!!

Unfortunately, Chinese food is loaded with sugars and starches. The sugars are found in the prepared/jar sauces they use, like hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, etc. And the starches are used to thicken sauces and/or to coat meat to protect it from the high-heat cooking method.

You might be safe with plain steamed meat and plain steam vegetables, no sauce.

I "stir fry" veggies and protein in a bit of olive oil and usually add some red hot pepper flakes, some minced fresh ginger and a little chicken broth. Gives me the flavor without all the carby sweet sauces.

I have been making a soup with garlic, bok choy, and red cabbage. It tastes like Chinese to me. Someone suggested some sesame oil and I tried it over my cabbage with some vinegar and that tasted awesome!
