Re: wisdom teeth out.. help
Some good, hearty broth would be one way to keep up your fat calories. Somebody recently posted an egg shake concoction that they were blending up in the morning. Something like that would be good.
It's gonna be tough if not impossible to get your leafy greens in... unless the thought of drinking pureed letuce appeals to you. But you could definitely cook things like broccoli and cauliflower soft enough to eat.
Yes, pumpkin is allowed.Name: Forrest

Start Date: April 6, 2009
200 lbs or less... it's gonna happen

Re: wisdom teeth out.. help
If you're only on day 3 of your induction and planning to get your wisdom teeth out, I'd recommend you postpone your weight loss plans until that's taken care of. By all means, listen to the advice of others for some low carb options to see if they'll work for you, but personally I wouldn't want to worry about what I'm eating at the same time I'm trying to get through that kind of misery. Most of what dentists recommend you eat after wisdom teeth extraction is very high in carbohydrates (i.e. ice cream, chicken noodle soup, pudding, etc). I vote you get your teeth out first, eat what you must to get through it, then begin induction when it's all said and done.

Re: wisdom teeth out.. help
Ashley, you can do Atkins for a few days without being able to eat solid food and I believe you should not use this medical issue as an excuse to go off Atkins, even if only for a while.
Here are some ideas of what you can have.
Soup. Any kind is okay, but cook the vegetables until they are soft or puree them. You might have to skip the meat. Here are two soup recipes (randomly selected):

Eggnog. This is one recipe:
Soft-boiled eggs. You can mash them with some salt and they are really good.
Eggplant salad. Place a whole eggplant on a rimmed baking sheet and cook it in the oven until soft (sorry, I don't know the temperature you need for this, but anything will probably work). It is also possible to cook them on a grill instead. Before putting the whole eggplants in the oven, use a fork to make some wholes in it -- otherwise it will explode.
When the eggplant(s) is done, take it out of the oven and peel the skin off while the eggplant is still hot. Puree the eggplant and get rid of the excess water, then let it cool. Mix the puree eggplant with mayo, some salt and thinly chopped garlic or onion (you might want to use garlic powder instead).
Pureed pumpkin. Looks like you already thought about this.
Let us know how it goes and ask if you have any questions.

Re: wisdom teeth out.. help
You will recover from having your teeth out faster than you think. I was always thinking it would be a recovery of days, but really, it gets better really fast, and I have had all 4 wisdom teeth out and one extra molar. I was always back to work the next day.
If you like yellow squashes they can be cooked really soft. You would likely be able to eat soft scrambled eggs the evening after the surgery. I don't know why the mouth heals so fast, maybe being bathed in saliva instead of dry? but it does heal quickly.
