  • Update from hospital, it wasn't atkins flu.

Well for whoever can remember, i was praising the weight loss but was having a nightmare with what i thought was atkins flu, migraines, blurred vision, aches and pains everywhere.

Well for the last three weeks i have been in hospital. I collapsed at home on sat 4th April, and was found by my cleaner naked on the floor.

To cut a long story short, i had had two strokes, caused by acute infective bacterial endocarditis. An infection in the heart which causes infarcts (bits of the infected heart tissue in my case) to fly off through the bloodstream and either causing trhe infection to spread to other organs and if it makes its way to the brain can cause a stroke. i have also had to have a mechanical aeortic valve fitted in my heart at 39.

Doctors have all said the atkins diet had nothing to do with it so no blame there.

Nice now to be alive at least, they expected me to not make it due to size of the growth on my heart and the two strokes or at very least to be severely brain damaged, (Parents were called and told to expect the worst when they first bought me out of sedation), but now looks like i will make a full recovery.

Just to apologise for suggesting the diet was to blame and also because i am totally bored in hospital with another 4 weeks at least of intravenous antibiotics before i can go home, thank god for wireless internet.
