  • ARG! 5 days at the same weight!

I've been keeping good track of what I eat on FitDay and I'm doing really well, so why is it that for the past 5 days I haven't lost a single ounce? In fact, for two days I had added on a pound. I'm just not getting it! I'm eating nothing illegal, I'm drinking tons of water, I'm eating around 1500 calories, 18 total carbs, no diet sodas, nothing overly salty, I took a laxative to help out with some constipation I had and got rid of, and yet this morning I'm still in 234-World.

I know its hot out and I have no air conditioning, so could my body be retaining water really bad? I drink anywhere from 120 ounces to 160 ounces a day, and have only needed to go to the bathroom 3-4 times a day. I just assumed that it was because my body had gotten used o the extra water.

Could it be the heat? Could it be water retention? I'm on Day 9 and 8 pounds so I'm not "complaining" about the weight loss, just frustrated at it's complete stop. It's too hot to exercise or I'd be doing that. Tonight we may get the AC turned on and if so I'll start exercising in the morning. Any advice would be helpful!

Eight pounds in nine days? That's great! Relax ... exercise will definitely speed things up, though.

Consider moving into OWL after the fourteen days induction. Many people on this board say that as soon as they added in those extra veggies the weight started coming off again.

Glad you solved the problem. Did you try one of the fiber supplements Dr. Atkins recommended in the book? Or a stool softener? They are a nicer on your body than laxatives.

That would be a good thing to do. Exercise helps not only with weight loss, but also with constipation.

Re: ARG! 5 days at the same weight!

Well, the weight loss problem is still on, but the same thing is happening with my partner and we're eating the same things, doing the same things....and we both noticed that we're not going to the bathroom nearly as often as we should be compared to the amount of water we're drinking. So we're thinking this could all be water retention as we're both solidly purple on the stick-thingies.

I know we shouldn't weigh ourselves every day, but this is why we do it. We've done Atkins three times and each time we cheated, or did things we shouldn't have and did not pay attention to what our weight was doing until it was too late and then got depressed, ate, binged, and fell off the wagon. This time we decided to weigh often, try to figure out how our bodies were working, see if we spotted any trends, etc. So, while it is insanely frustrating to see this day after day, it also helps us figure out what could be going wrong.

So today we agreed to try drinking two cups of green tea instead of coffee as green tea is an excellent and gentle diuretic. If we do this a couple of days and still don't see a difference, I think it's safe to assume that it isn't water retention. We're not exercising the next two days just to test that theory. But, the good news is that we got our AC turned on so we can be nice and ready to exercise when the time comes!

I had a 5 day no loss, in fact went up a pound, then finally dropped from 199 to 195. One's body is just a strange machine at times. It's frustrating but just keep pluggin away and it'll drop.

Re: ARG! 5 days at the same weight!

don't give up -- you have lost quite a bit already and are doing real well with your water intake. You won't loose the same as someone else because your body chemistry isn't the same. There are times I swear I'll never loose another ounce because I haven't lost for a couple weeks, then all the sudden I loose 2 or 3 pounds.

exercise is a great way to get rid of frustration, tone your body and help the weight go away. Don't worry about not loosing...it will happen, you just have to have patience.

I was always a wait and whoosh type of loser. My body would bob up and down the same pound or so for a couple of weeks then WHOOSH three pounds gone forever. Didn't make the wait any easier but at least I knew what was happening.

Bella, you may want to take a look at the "Weight loss is not linear" thread right here in the Induction section too. It has a lot of good advice.
