  • Skinny newbie just started Induction -will I still loose lbs?

Hi! I am on my second day induction. I have always been 90-100 lbs, but recently gained 12 lbs from a depression phase.

I weigh 110 and want to get back to my previous weight of 98 lbs.
I am not anorexic- dont worry; I am 5'10 and have a very small frame, so 110 lbs looks more like 135 on me.
I am a working model and need to get my toned body back quickly!

    My QUESTION is:
even though I have a "low weight" according to a BMI average calculator, can I still loose 12 lbs during induction phase?

Will I loose much more slowly than a heavier individual?

Should I eat LESS CARBS or calories than others?

    I greatly appreciate your advice!

    Welcome to ADBB, Alex

As your BMI is already so low I can't imagine that you would be likely to lose 12 pounds in the 14 days of induction, but if you follow the rules of induction your body will I am sure start to return to its preferred body weight.

This might not be the same low weight that you want to achieve but it will be a healthy weight for your frame.

You might find your numbers actually go up for a while as your body gets used to eating the nutritious foods we eat on Atkins if it has felt deprived by whatever eating regime you are used to.

But Atkins is renowned for allowing people to lose fat as opposed to just losing scales weight, so combined with exercising you might see your body changing shape even if the scales go up.

Many Atkineers find they can wear a lower dress size at a weight that before Atkins they wore a larger one, so you might need to re-evaluate your ideal weight goal once your body has changed shape and go by dress sizes instead

After all it is really FAT we are trying to lose, not just weight, and no-one sees your scales numbers, only the slimmer you!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

you're 5'10?? let me show you something...
        Photographic Height
go to that graph and look at the woman listed who is 5'10 and 110. does -that- look healthy to you? you need to gain 10lbs to even be in the very -bottom- of our weight range. as far as your question goes, thin people do lose extra weight on atkins but it does take a lot longer than with someone with more to lose, so you have to stick to it even if you dont see results right away. but as far as someone with an -underweight- bmi goes, i have no idea if it would work for what you want to lose or not.

You can lose 12 lbs... however you will not lose that amount during the induction phase... it will take longer than 2 weeks to lose that amount... You will lose a lot slower than a heavier person. Eating less carbs will not speed up the weight loss, it's just a matter of how fast your body burns the fat, and if you don't have any fat to burn, you aren't going to lose it any faster. Lowering your calories may make you lose weight faster because you will be losing muscle and not fat.

Thanks everyone! It makes sense that I would loose more slowly since I have little to loose.
I will keep my diet low calorie as well to make sure my weight loss isn;t too slow.
Measurements are definitely more important than weight too! I hope I see some toning soon.

Please don't restrict your calories, Alex.

This would make your induction into a deprivation 'diet' rather than a healthy new way of eating and could result in your body holding on to any fat you might have instead of allowing excess fat to leave.

The best way to assure some toning would be to incorporate exercise into your regime - weightlifting as well as some cardio.

I wholeheartedly agree with this! Exercise will tone your body better than a weight loss diet, especially since you aren't overweight or obese to begin with.

And msangelpie makes a good point. If you don't have any excess fat to lose, you will be losing muscle, which is bad.

You're best bet is to get your %body fat measured. See, having too much body fat is just as bad as having too little----something people don't seem to appreciate these days because stick thin is generally seen as "healthy" in our society, when in the old days, stick thin meant disease-ridden, sickly and weak.

Re: Skinny newbie just started Induction -will I still loose lbs?

cardio burns fat, weight training makes you toned. you really can't do one without the other in my opinion. if all you did was cardio, you wouldn't have any definition or tightening up of your body once the fat was gone. if all you did was weights, you'd be stronger but you won't be able to see it beneath the fat layer.
i do an hour to an hour and a half of cardio and try to work for 20-30 minutes of weight training.

i'm the same height as you, maybe half an inch taller, and if i weighed 110, i'd be dead. its just not how i'm built. i do have a friend about the same height as me who's probably around 120-130 and she's always been that way so i'm trusting that you're not reaching for anything unattainable or unhealthy. but she also has no muscle tone. my sister in law's sister is 5'1 and about 120-130. that seems like a lot for her height, but she's a body builder and trainer, and she's tiiiiiny tiny, she's just all muscle. so when you start working out keep in mind you may trade the number on the scale for toned muscles, and the number isn't everything.

I'm glad that you understand this too! Nobody believes me when I tell them how much i weight. People tell me i look about 130.
I see lots of people who are my weight, even shorter too and look far too thin!

I remember doing a bmi test at the doctor and the results were vey different than if i just a bmi calculator. I definitely have a lot of body fat for my frame because i can see where the sxcess has gathered in flabs of fat like on my upper arms, inner thighs and mid section.
I do'nt have too much muscle, but my arms have actually gotten too big ever since I started lifting weights, so I dont do intensive weight lifting.

I love hiking, power walking, climing stairs and dancing for cardio, so I will do more of those! I also do some yoga, so I think this is helping with lean muscle building

Alex, I lift weights (and heavy ones) and I have found that the arms bulk up the quickest so what I do is lots of reps with low weights on the arms so they don't get big but give me great "guns" (I want Jennifer Garner's arms) but I do continue to lift heavy weights for chest, back, shoulder, etc. because those areas don't bulk up like the arms. I also recommend pilates for your core. The muscle changes will change your body in much more positive ways than just losing the wieght can and it gives you more of a dancer's build.
