  • Tofu and Wheat protein ok?

I don't eat meat or dairy-I wouldn't be able to if you paid me unfortunately.
BUT I have found plenty have found plenty of packaged meat/cheese/milk substitutes with 0 carbs or very low amounts.
They mainly contain isolated soy proteiin, wheat protein, rice protien, and vegetable oils.
Are these ingredients ok for the diet, and are they ok for the induction phase?

As far as I know if it is ISOLATED protein then it is allowed on induction - the ordinary (not isolated) proteins like whey protein, wheat protein, soy protein are allowed when you reach the relevant OWL rung that allows for milk, wheat or soy.

Tofu is allowed under the 'cheese' section of the allowed list as Dr Atkins would have known what we nowadays call 'tofu' as being called 'soy cheese'

Do you eat fish and/or eggs? Those will help you through induction.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

That's right. Isolated whey/soy/wheat protein is okay on Induction, but things like whey/soy/wheat protein should be avoided.

Alex, there is an FAQ thread on the Board, explaining how to do Atkins as a vegetarian. Perhaps you want to check that out. Here's the link to it: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...egetarian.html

thank you! Yes I eat salmon and tuna. Should I still limit my soy intake during induction?

If I were you, I would only eat meat substitutes made of soy in those days when I don't eat real meat (tuna and salmon). As always, count them towards your net carbs and be careful to get over half of your daily net carbs from vegetables.

Make sure they are not sweetened with aspartame. Plus, some people are stalled by the ingredients in shakes, so keep an eye on that too.
