  • Super delicious chocolate vanilla coffee on induction? heeeelllp!!!

1 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder (hersheys)= 2 net carbs
2 tbs sugar free vanilla syrup= zero carbs, but made with splenda so I count it as 1 carb.

16oz coffee= my daily allowance during induction

Its sooooo good! I went from *bucks white mochas to atkins and have been missing it a bit. I had to give up my creamer because I could easily get my daily carbs from that alone- so Ive been drinking it black for the past two days and gave in to this.

3 net carbs- and I loved every last drop of it. Have I crossed the line here? The cocoa has no sugar at all, and does have a super small amount of protein and iron.

It was sweet- but Im not having any cravings or feeling icky. I feel guilty though- Like I just ate an entire pizza or something.

Can someone please give me a swift kick for this- Im only on day 3 and I feel like I found a way to cheat the system... I want to do this right.

PS- half of the cocoa ends up settling to the bottom of the coffee cup so maybe I can minus a carb ?(heres my inner self trying to validate my indulgance) aaahhhhhh!!!!!

If my memory serves me correctly chocolate is not allowed until the Nut Rung. One of the mods can say for sure

Powdered cocoa is considered a spice and is allowed during Induction.

As to whether you can have your delicious coffee or not, it is your choice. You have to figure out if you crave it and have an "addiction" to it or if you just like to have it once in a while. If it's the former, then it's better to avoid it. Otherwise you can drink it occasionally and, of course, in moderation.

Forgot to add... Are you using decaf? Regular coffee can mess up your blood sugar levels and Dr. Atkins wrote that it should be avoided. Cravings are only one of the symptoms of a blood sugar problem. Check the test in Chapter 12 (pp. 150-151) of DANDR to see the others.

        Thanks for the response Georgina!
I havent gone completely decaf- Im down to half and half right now. I went the first two daya decaf, and ended up with withdrawl symptoms like I was a herion addict. I plan on weening down to coffee free by the end of induction, which is going to be a huge life change for me! Im excited! I want to be one of those people that wake up to an apple instead of mainlining coffee.

Craving: nothing! Bleh! about an hour ago I started feeling shticky, purrrrty sure its this wonderful induction flu everyone is talking about- I can barely drink water right now... all I really want to do is take a nap!

Its nice to know that its a "spice" and its allowed- because I cook ALOT, and its awesome with steak!

        *my sofa is calling* bleh.

As Georgiana said, it could be consired as a spice so used in 'spices quantities' on induction if you have no cravings or other blood sugar symptoms from it.

For larger quantites it can be added in 5 net carb amounts on the nut rung of OWL.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
