  • Need opinion / advice / direction :\

Today is my first day. I'm nervous and worried. I miss my carbs and sugars I've been rereading my DANDR and I'm freaking over veggies We've never been friends.
I was reading about eating TOO much protein and I am wondering.... exactly how much IS too much?

Today I had (all day total)

    8 boiled eggs
    12 strips of turkey bacon
    4 oz sharp cheddar
    12 oz hamburger meat
    1/2 cup of fresh mushrooms
    1/2 cup of green onions
    98 oz of water

I was reading up on the ketosis as well. How soon should you be able to tell? With the strips, that is.
So here I sit freaking over too much protein and too little of my arch enemy... the vegetable.

I thought I was off to a good start, but now I think I failed right off the bat. Can you tell I have inner conflict?

Any advice ore recommendations would be great. My book is already dogeared. Also, any idea how to get my stats up there (although I hate to see them in black and white)

Thanks and again.... you guys are my inspiration!

Protein is a free food, so at this point don't worry about eating to much. At some point you won't want the whole cow. Remember, eat until your satisfied, not stuffed. Your still low in the veggie department, 2 to 3 cups is required. Mushrooms are fine, onions are really high in carbs so limit them to 'few'. You can often hide your veggies in soups, casseroles, stuff like that. One member fries up red radishes and swears they taste like fried potatoes, frozen cauliflower baked with bacon and cheese is great. There are tons of recipes around
Ketosis will start soon, couple of days, you will have a tinny taste in your mouth and if you have already purchased the strips, they should start to turn in a few days. If you haven't purchased them, don't bother, you will know when your in ketosis. They don't work for everyone.
BTW, we don't fail on this way of eating, sometimes we have little setbacks but never a failuer.
    Welcome

Vegetables are your friends. There are over 50 vegetables on the Induction Acceptable Foods List. Some of them, I can't find in my local grocery store, speciality stores or farmer's markets, but if you can, then try them out and see if you like them. I've learned that many people don't like vegetables because they never had them prepared properly. So they eat over-cooked veggies that taste bitter, smell like sulfur and have a dull, unappetizing color. Or they eat raw veggies that are too chewy/crunchy and have a distinctly unappetizing flavor of rawness.

They fill you up during meals, so you don't need to eat huge amounts of protein to satisfy your hunger.

You've eaten a total of 1 cup of vegetables. Mushrooms are considered a "Salad" vegetable, so you've eaten about 1/4 of your daily ration of "salad" vegetables. Green onions are considered "other vegetables" and are limited to 1 cup daily if the salad vegetables don't exceed 2 cups. So you've eaten only 1/2 of your daily ration for the "other vegetable".

Excessive dietary protein WILL be converted to glucose by your body. Whatever can't fit into the storage form (glycogen) or whatever isn't used immediately for energy WILL stored as FAT. So it's never a good idea to over-eat protein.

Protein should comprise roughly 30% of your total daily caloric intake during Atkins.

Thank you sooooo much! You all are helping me to change my way of seeing things and I think I can really do it this time Thanks for pointing me to the fit tracker. It seems easier when you have graphs and charts to look at instead of just the mirror.
It said that my goal of 160 (start weight of 205) and the goal date of 09/01/09 was too extreme, but from reading all you guys' results, I don't think that is unreasonable.

Thanks again you guys!!!! I feel like I've finally found the support that I need..... knowing that I'm not alone!!!!

          Funky now...... fabs in Sept!
