  • Ahhhhhhhhhh! Horrible!!! Neeeeed help please!!!!!!!!!!

Hi! I am in induction (again- stupid strawberries) and I was wondering- What should my food percentages be (ie: protien, fats, carbs...etc...). How do I know when I'm in ketosis? What is Ketosis (In words a 15 yr old can understand, please)?

    How aweful is my menu?
    Breakfast-None
    Lunch-None
Snack (4pm)- Celery sticks and spinach
Dinner (7pm)- 1 medium steak and 3 dinner sausages (cooked in tomato sauce in a crocpot)
Dessert- 1/2 cup no sugar added ice cream (6net carbs)

I know- it looks bad, can somebody PLEASE help me.......

Thanks in advance to all help (I know I'm a disaster)

    Hi Ashley,

You sound really frustrated. Yes your menu is not really atkins. Take a deep breath! Relax and learn about this way of eating. You will do just fine.

I know it sux to hear "read the book". But....oh gosh, you really should pick up a copy. It will not be over your head, check your library if you do not want to purchase it.

    Heres what I know...

The ratio is supposed to be 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs. ...

Skipping meals is not good, (even if not following Atkins!) I try to eat some avocado and eggs...there are sooo many great recipes on this site...easy stuff to do, even for a 15 year old!

Hang in there!!! I am sure more people will come along that have been doing this longer with really great advice.

Take care...and remember, one step at a time!! You will figure this all out.

Re: Ahhhhhhhhhh! Horrible!!! Neeeeed help please!!!!!!!!!!

Since you are 15 years old, you will be best served following the low carb diet in Feed Your Kids Well, by Dr. Fred Pescatore. Dr. Pescatore was the associate director of the Atkins Center and that diet was the one used at the Atkins Center for children and teenagers, like you.

Atkins is an adult-based diet. Adults have less nutritional needs than children and, especially teenagers. We are only now learning the effects of poor nutrition during adolescence has later on in adulthood. So it's really foolish (and perhaps dangerous) for children and teenagers to follow a diet that is specifically written for adults.

          Here's Dr. Pescatore's book:

Re: Ahhhhhhhhhh! Horrible!!! Neeeeed help please!!!!!!!!!!

il try too make this into something a 15 year old can understand

            your menu could use fixing

            1. no ice cream not yet anyways
            2. dinner sausages may have tiny bits of sugar in them
            3. skipping breakfast can cause you to gain weight
            4. skipping lunch can cause you to gain weight

remmber to eat untill you are satisfied dont ever go with out eating when you are hungry that will make loseing weight alot harder

dont skip breakfast dont be too lazy to eat breakfast

here are some of the lowest net carb vegetables

            Sprouts (bean, alfalfa, etc.)
Greens – lettuces, spinach, chard, etc.
Hearty Greens - collards, mustard greens, kale, etc.
Radicchio and endive count as greens
Herbs - parsley, cilantro, basil, rosemary, thyme, etc.
            Bok Choy
            Celery
            Radishes
            Sea Vegetables (Nori, etc)
            Cabbage (or sauerkraut)
            Mushrooms
            Jicama
            Avocado
Cucumbers (or pickles without added sugars)
            Asparagus
            Green Beans and Wax Beans
            Broccoli
            Cauliflower

and heres a list of the lowest to highest
Low-Carb Vegetables: List of Vegetables to Eat When Cutting Carbs

            Turkey
            Chicken
            Fish
            Eggs
            Beef
            Lamb
            Butter

you can eat as much of these as you want as long as they are pure as in nothing added to them in other words no deli meats or speical package meats that have hidden sugars

theres lots of other stuff you should know there are lots of other foods you can eat too so spend lots of time learning about it all

read all the stuff on these forums and also try and read all the books recomended in the previous posts

and try and get your parents or people your living with to learn about the diet too so they can help you

Re: Ahhhhhhhhhh! Horrible!!! Neeeeed help please!!!!!!!!!!

Ziggy, you've provided really good information. But Ashley really needs a diet that meets the nutritional requirements of teenagers---Atkins doesn't do that. And she really needs to be followed closely by a physician.

Furthermore, I've been following Ashley's posts and it doesn't seem that she has bothered to read any of the information others have posted to her. It looks like she is just copying homework and submitting it as her own. And that's very dangerous for her health and general well-being.
