  • Trying Induction Again and just not losing. Please Help

Okay so I'm 5'6 and 146. At my lightest and happiest I was 136, though I would have hoped to go a bit lower than that.

My highest was around 162 when I first discovered Atkins and lost 20 lbs without hardly thinking about it. I thought it was the greatest. That was about 6 years ago. Then came baby, all the weight back.

I tried WW after pregnancy and did okay down to about 140 but didn't do good on maintaining.

I have tried to get back on low carb again and just can't seem to jump in.

I have tried over the last three weeks for induction, but each weekend over first two weeks I had a big outing with wine/drinks (low carb) but still good eating. Would lose about a lb through the week and all back after the weekend.

I guess this is a silly question, but the wine is a total sabotage and just have to start over?

And even when for days I feel like I've done everything right, I'm just not getting that BIG WOOSH loss like I had the first time. It's very discouraging.

    Thoughts?

Are the Atkins Shakes and Advantage Bars (Peanute Fudge Granola Bar) okay on induction? OR should I stick with eggs and bacon for breakfast everyday?

    Hi KimR,
I had the same question regarding the Atkins Shakes and Advantage Bars and I was told that a lot of those products contain illegal products, if you are on induction. I heard somewhere that the bars and shakes were produced after Dr Atkins died and he didn't approve them. Either way, they seem to good to be true! I would stick to eggs and bacon, stick to the legal food in the book that way you know you are doing it right!

Hmmm... And they are so convenient. I'm sure I used the shakes quite often the first time around; but maybe not so much the bars. What I really miss that doesn't seem to be on the market anymore are the atkins muffin mixes... chocolate chocolate chip muffins with a little dollop of whipped cream! YUMMY

As you have discovered, drinking alcohol will sabotage your losing as your body will use it as a 'preferred fuel' and store the foods you are eating to be used later

You might need to readjust your expectations of induction as you have about 11 pounds to lose this time. A 'normal' amount to lose on a 14 day induction (without alcohol) is said to be between 5% and 10% of the total amount you want to lose - so for you, losing between 1/2 pound and 1 pound over the 14 days would have been 'normal'.

You did start to lose to that extent but the alcohol messed up your losing progress

So maybe you can plan not to allow yourself alcohol for a while and give yourself a better chance of seeing results?

As Tiana said, you would be better to use food from the allowed list instead of processed bars and shakes which will probably have ingredients not really 'legal' till the relevant OWL rungs.

Take a look at our food/recipes forums for some 'legal' alternatives for an occasional dessert.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Mostly shakes and bars were just good for convenience for breakfast / lunch option. I have a 5 year old and find it hard to prepare a fresh salad each day for lunch, and also fry up some eggs and bacon.

Additionally about the bars and shakes, it's been our collective experience on ADBB that those bars and shakes either slow or completely stop weight loss for most people. So we don't recommend their use during Induction.

I have a full-time job that requires me to be in the office from 8 AM to 5 PM five days a week. I prepare as many meals or parts of meals that I can on the weekends then I merely remove the food from the frig and re-heat (if necessary) or pack into my lunch box.

There are many do-ahead recipes, like crustless quiche, boiled eggs, tuna/chicken/egg salad, etc. that fit in perfectly for people like us.
