  • Just starting out whats your best advice?

Hey all I'm new I just ordered the book off ebay (white book blue letters dont know if it was the one you go by but it was cheap!!) So I plan to start next week and I was just wondering what your best advice is. I am trying to start a shopping list and I am trying to get some meal ideas ready so I will be prepared to start Monday. I have been reading alot on here all day so I have a good idea of the diet itself but I'm not sure what to expect. Also what are some of the must have things that I should put on my shopping list? Thanks

In addition to reading the book....

    1. Re-read the book.
    2. Take notes on the book.
    3. Make at least 3 copies of the Induction Acceptable Foods List and the Rules of Induction. Place one copy on the frig, another in your desk at work, and another in your purse or wallet. Do this so you can always refer to it, so you'll avoid making mistakes.
    4. Get a check up by your doctor.
    5. Re-read the book.

I'm not being a smart aleck about reading the book. There's alot of information packed into to book and it takes several readings to get it all straight. Taking notes doesn't hurt either.

Megs is right -- I've been on plan for 4 months and have read the book 3 times already. There are parts that are practically tattered from re-reading and other parts that are pristine because I'm not to that part of the program yet, but I have read when I will be doing to have something to look forward to.

My best advise, don't buy the Atkins products (shakes and bars) they have ingredients that are not allowed on induction -- it's a marketing ploy by Dr. Atkins wife to make her money so she can live comfortably off his name.

Read the acceptable foods list....eat only foods on that list (If it's not on the list it doesn't go in your mouth).

Buy a food scale and use it for everything - you may think you know what a portion size is when you don't really - you will be amazed!

Drink at least 64 ounces of pure water a day (nothing in it - clear pure water is the only thing that counts). Kool-aid, crystal lite, coffee, tea - these don't count and the sweetners in kool-aid and crystal lite stall some people.

Make your menu out the evening before. That way you know what you have on hand and you won't be tempted to reach for something not on the list. Eat a variety of different food, not the same thing over and over everyday -- there are so many foods to eat you should never get bored.

Make your lunch before you go to bed - no excuses for not having a lunch. There are all sorts of veggies, cheese (limited so be careful) and meat roll ups you can take along and eat.

Start an exercise routine. When I first started I huffed & puffed to the corner and back -- now I walk several miles at a time, I bike 20 miles every other day and do exercise DVD's. Vary what you do so your muscles get a day off and you don't get tired of the same thing over and over.

Most of all, enjoy the journey. This is a wonderful way of eating (WOE) and the board is a great place to be for support.

      Good luck
      Carole

        How is Induction going, Theresa?

This really depends on what you like to eat. Take a copy of the list of foods acceptable during Induction with you when you go shopping.
