  • Alcohol during induction

I know my book says NO alcohol during induction......... BUT............

My team, the Rockets, are in the playoffs so friends are having playoff parties. The first is coming up on Friday night and alcohol is always abundant. I love beer and am wondering....... can I have Michelob Ultra? Or maybe vodka and tonic or something? I looked up vodka in my book and it says 0 carbs. I think Michelob Ultra is super low in the carb count.

If the answer is a flat out NO, then does anyone have any suggestions as an alternative? I don't want to screw this up but sometimes it's just not a party without at least some alcohol. I don't have a drinking problem so I could say no if I have to. I've made good progress, so encouragement or alternatives would be fabs!!

    Thanks, and GO ROCKETS!!!!

If you want to do things by the book, so that you maximize your weight loss results, then it is better to stay away from alcohol. I know this is not what you need, but I'd suggest water. Maybe carbonated water with some lemon in it?

Dr. Atkins prohibited alcohol for a good reason: your body will metabolize alcohol BEFORE it will metabolize the fats, proteins and carbs you have eaten and BEFORE it will metabolize your body fat. So it will delay your weight loss.

There will be people here telling you that they drank all throughout their Induction and they lost weight just fine. That might be the case, but did they ever reach their goal at the time they wanted to reach it?

There will be people here telling you that they drank alcohol and NEVER fell out of ketosis because their stix were as purple as purple can be. However, the alcohol can give a false positive for the ketostix.

It's really up to you to decide what is more important to you: a party or losing weight.

If you can stay away, its better during induction. You want a clean induction so you know how metabolically resistant you are, its very helpful information. Also, when you drink alcohol, your body needs to burn that off first before it can start back burning the fat...something to think about.

        Good luck in the playoffs!

Yes, you are right Megs. That last statement was a whollop, but it's what I needed to hear cuz you are right! Losing weight IS more important than having a few beers. A plus is that the hostess is a recovered alcoholic so if SHE can do it with no problems, then so can I!

Thanks again you guys... sometimes I just need that little "don't do it" from other people to encourage me!
