  • What am I doing wrong???

I've been on induction since tuesday March 29th - 4 days. I still havent lost in any weight, on the contrary I gained half a pound. Now except for 1 very small bite of chocolate cake, I have been very good. i know the book says the slightest bit of sugar can set you back...but shouldnt I have lost something since I have drastically cut back my food intake?? And on top of that Im working out, Im so frustrated. This is my second time on Atkins, the first time I lost close to 40lbs and hardly ever worked out but have gained it back over the last 2 years due to careless eating. Im finding Atkins so much harder the second time around.

I feel like Im destined to be 238 forever. :no :help :sadblinky

Have you been drinking your water and exercising? I would first look at those two things. Have you tested to see if you made it into ketosis yet? (either by symptoms or the ketostix) That might tell if there are hidden carbs creeping into the diet interferring with the weighloss other than the chocolate cake. Post a menu if you want someone to review it -- that may help as well.

          Pau,

My eating has gone way down, since I started. Could that be why? I am drinking more water than ever, eating 3 meals aday, working out for 35 minutes on the elliptical machine and sauna for 10 mins. I even stopped smoking this week too. Im really really trying. The cake was for a co workers going away party and another co worker who made the cake felt insulted that I didnt take a piece...so we agreed on a bite. Excuses, I know but still. Shouldnt I have atleast lost a pound. Even if there is hidden sugars like Bowulf mentioned. Im not eating anything compared to what i was eating. uggg

Another question Pau. I see you are spanish...did you find it hard. I am of puerto rican decent and almost all of the foods I eat contain carbs. How did you do it. I personally was raised on rice and beans....I find my self questioning if I could give it up forever.

Based upon what you have written, I would probably more link it to the quitting smoking, which can definitely inhibit or retard weight loss attempts. Quitting smoking is definitely the way to go, but you might have to deal with interim time of getting the toxins out of your system.

                Hi Edream,

Congratulations on getting back on Atkins, like you I was successful on this WOL many years ago lost 40 pounds, drifted off course, gained it all back plus an additional 30 to keep it company.

In the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution which I hope you have read and use as your guide because without the book failure is guaranteed.

Anyway you might recall Dr. Atkins refers to one tiny cheat as the" kiss of failure" in all the earlier versions of DANDR he called it the kiss of Death, In my opinion he softened the message for whatever his reasons but the fact remains if you sabotage yourself - you will fail, over and over and over.

Until you understand that this way of life takes commitment, determination and an unshakable will to succeed - and it's easy! just follow the blue print laid out for you step by step in DANDR. The hard part of course is changing behavior.

Had you declined the piece of cake what would have happened?

                Not a thing.

But by eating it, all you do is ignite old cravings, give in to new ones and indulge old behavior patterns that made you fat, unhealthy and ashamed of your body in the first place.

That said, if you want to reinvent yourself, really finally free yourself from the prison of a body your not happy with and improve every aspect of your health and well being you're going to make a commitment to yourself - and keep it.

I was a 3 pack a day smoker for 25+ years and quit two weeks ago to the day. Since quitting I've gained 8-9 pounds but I couldn't care less. Being on Atkins has changed my life, the gastric reflux, chronic insomnia and myriad of other health problems I've suffered with are gone.

If I lose weight, great - it's an added bonus.

You say your "destined to weigh 238 pounds forever" - well that's true, if your unwilling to make the very small, really insignificant change in your eating and exercise habits. Then you'll not only weigh 238 forever chances are you'll get heavier.

But, if you can embrace this way of life, understand it, celebrate it, stay focused and commited you never have to weigh 238 again - ever.

You'll get slimmer and healthier and in the process become that person you've always known you are but just never saw looking back at you in the mirror.

Bottom line? It's all up to you - and it always has been.

                Peter ha

I'd have to agree, I think it could be the quitting smoking (good for you!). AND DON'T LET YOUR COWORKERS INFLUENCE YOU THAT WAY!!!! She'll just have to be "insulted" and you will just have to say "oh well" Sheesh. Some people! :nono

Hang in there and try not to weigh yourself until the full 2 weeks is up. I just started (day 5) and I refuse to get on the scale until day 15 cuz I'm afraid if I see something negative, I'll just indulge again.

This weekend will be my real test. It's when I tend to eat the most.

I also love rice!!!! but fortunately there are lots of food which I like: beef, pork, chicken, fish, seafood .. and veggies (cauliflower, zucchini, lettuce, spinach ....). I think it´s very important to vary your meals.

When I started the diet I planned what I was going to eat the whole week. Then I avoid cravings and my fridge is Atkins-friendly!

If you need ideas you´ll be welcomed in the food&cooking chat and in the recipe request!

P.S.- and don´t tnink you´ll NEVER EVER eat rice again! I sometimes do and I go on with Atkins. It does nos stall me as I go daily to the gym and I just eat it from time to time.
