  • Help Please!!

    I have a serious addiction to Coca Cola. I started Induction 10 days ago and have been doing fairly well. I've lost 6 lbs. But for the past two days my cravings for Coke have been so bad that I gave in. :-( Now, according to the test strips I am out of liposis and into glycosis. :-( Please help!

    The best way to kick the addiction is to get rid of all of it! Ban Coke from your home. Avoiding all sweets (incl splenda) may help the cravings for sweets go away. You already know you can't have any - or Atkins won't work for you - so kicking the habit is the only way to go.

      Thanks Julie for the encouragement and support. I know I can do this. I might fall on my face a few times but I am not giving up. I like how Dr. Atkin's explains addiction....he says you can't let an alcholic drink in moderation. They have to give it ALL up. I know the same is true for me.....boy is it hard though. I have been drinking Coke since I was 4 years old.....that's almost 26 years! Ugh!!! Evil....evil.....coke!!!

        You can do it. It wasn't the sugary stuff you drank hopefully.

            Before Atkins (only three weeks) I drank 2 or 3 XL coffees with double sugar & double cream & about 2 litres (1/2 gallon) of diet pop every day. I've been drinking diet pop like its goin' outta style since...the 80s (whoo really dating myself here). Now if I have coffee at all, its a large (16oz) decaf one cream, maybe an herb tea and water. I thought I would DIE without my pop, but really, I don't miss it. Don't miss the 20lbs I've lost either.

              Oh I went all out and drank regular coke!!! :-( Man....I really want one right now too! Ugh. I won't give in. These cravings have to go away!!!

                i found that once i get past the first really hard craving the rest are never as bad. Try going to a walk or try on a goal outfit that you want to fit into. Sometimes coming the this site and looking at before and after pictures helps as well

                  A mere amateur!!! Yes ... giving up Coke can be done, I'd been drinking Coke since it was in glass bottles for 10 cents! Went cold turkey a week before I began Atkins ... it can be done.

                  I also subscribe to no sweets, not even the fake stuff. Curb your sugar cravings. Even the fake sweet stuff can trigger real cravings.

                    You have to cut out all sugar. Or you are not going to see the benefits of the diet. So the regular coke has to go. Hang in there. Work on it. You can do it.

                      I had to wean myself off I switched from diet pepsi to sierra mist to diet sierra mist. The caffiene headaches almost made me cave but I made it and now all I drink is water.

                      I have never been a water drinker my whole life and now instead of going through a case of pop every 3-4 days I am going through a case of water.

                        Atkin's is a life change and the first step to changing your life is cutting your addicitions. I grew up in the South with carbs everywhere! Biscuits and gravy, fried and breaded foods...when I started Atkin's I could smell bread from across the building. You have to tell yourself that you're changing your life and taking control; don't let the craving control you. Good luck

                          I had the same problem, except to Coke's arch-nemesis, Pepsi! . Now, correct me if I am wrong, but Diet Soda sweetened with Splenda was on the approved list. I sure hope so anyway!

                            Yes, diet rite etc... and other sodas with sucralose are on the induction beverage list...

                              Don't forget that every 8oz (1 cup) serving of diet cola counts as one of your 3 allowed sweeteners / day.
