  • Please I need help!!

    I have been doing Atkins for the past 12 days. It looks as if I have not lost any weight. I got on the scale and I am at 218 again. Yes, I cheated yesterday, which gave me the crazy license to cheat again today and have peach cobbler and spaghetti for dinner to night.

    I was eating a lot of cheese and stay true to just pure meets and occassionally a salad at least every otherday. I was drinking at least 80-100on of water and lifting weights every other day as well as doing some kind of aerobic exercise or pilates alternate days.

    I also have had terribly hard stools and have been consitpated. Yesterday BM was very difficult to the point where I am scared to do the diet because of the straining ( sorry about the TMI).

    I am at my wits end. I just did Weight Watchers about 4 weeks ago and gave up, I was working out hard before that and no change. I feel as if I am destined to stay fat forever and I just hate being like this.

    Only one day did my ketostix turn 40% purple. Other days it has been at none to trace. In the past, I have been at 40%, but not working out, but still I am wondering if I have even been in ketosis other than that day because of the little to none trace of the ketones. First I attributed it to working out and the water, but I have found myself overeating at night, protein only, when I am not hungry. ( I am also stressed out).

    Can some one please help me and give me some direction please. I feel as if everything is out of control, and I can not even control my own body.

    Have you read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002?

      Yes I have read the book numerous times and I just finished again re-reading induction/ketosis and about constipation again. That is why I am asking for help to see if someone could provide me insight on if I am doing something else wrong. Thanks.

        Constipation is" pretty common, but nothing to worry about, "You may use magnesium oxide, extral vitamin C or a variety of vegetable laxatives and bulking agens. My favorite choice is psyllium husks, Start with 1 Tablespoon in one full glass of water and increase or decrease the dose until the optimal bowel movement is obtain." Thats from the book, also, make sure your getting all your veggies in, not a salad every other day, thats not in the rules, every day you need 2 to 3 cups of veggies from the acceptable list, No wonder your constipated. Cheese doesnt help either No more than 3 - 4 ounces a day.
        As far as ketosis, it doesn't matter if your trace or dark purple, actually light is best as it means your getting your water in. I lost 30 pounds and couldn't get even trace, so I tossed them out and never used them again, but others swear by them.
        Now, cheating don't help, once you give yourself permission to cheat, its get easier and easier. BUT I had a hard time starting also but I kept trying for one cheat free day and then the next day it was easier and easier.

          From your original post, it seems as if you are not following the diet as laid out in the book. (DANDR 2002) Are you reading an older version or something?

          This is not how this diet works. You should be eating plenty of fat and getting the bulk of your carbs from fresh vegetables EVERY DAY. Cheese is limited to 4 oz per day.

          You might find that if you get your daily eating more in line with how induction is actually structured, that your constipation is not so bad.

            Thank you for your insight. I did try the psyllium husk, however it was not making a difference. SO I will also try the Mag plus Vit C. The cheese factor, I thought the amt that I was eating was less than 3-4 oz, I must have been wrong.

            IN the book I thought that it said if you are not in ketosis, then one should stop the salad and onlly eat pure meats. Which is why I took away the salad, and just kept the cheese and meats.

            I see where I have erred. Thanks so much for your help, sometimes just reading something is not necessarily enough, it must be interpreted, for those who don't always get it, like me!
