  • Hi, starting tomorrow, May 13

    Hi everyone,

I'm starting induction tomorrow. I have around 90 pounds to lose. I have attempted this diet before, but I could never get past the first or second day cravings for sweets.

I am truly addicted to sweets and sugar, and it's ruining my life. I am controlled by thoughts of food, mostly sweet stuff. I haven't always been this way. After I had a baby a year ago I was 90 pounds overweight. I've spent the last year beginning every diet known to man (WW, Nutrisystem, idiot proof diet, medically supervised liquid protein shake fast, ect..) and each time I fail because my thoughts are consumed by food.

I really want to be free of this food addiction, and I want my life back. My trouble is just getting though the first 2 or 3 days.

I've been looking at the celebration forum here and it's been really motivating.

Well thanks for "listening". I'm just trying to focus on the next two days and look forward to all this energy that everyone says will come with induction.

Hi and welcome amc -- I wish you much luck. Give it the full 14 days and you'll be amazed in the changes you make. You are probably going to have problems the first few days while the cravings are the worst but drink plenty of water and get up and move around, take a walk, exercise of some sort will keep your mind off things.

Here are some links that will be helpful -- I hope you have the 2002 DANDR book or will be getting a copy soon. Drink at least 64 ounces of PURE water daily & exercise. Check the recipe sites and find some great things to eat the first few days.

If you need anything all you have to do is ask!

The Rules of Induction can be found here:
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6782 (What are the Rules of Induction?)

The Induction Acceptable Foods List can be found here:
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781 (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Daily Menus
Sugar Free Sheila's Atkins Low Carb Induction Friendly Recipes!

This is from the "Read before you start" post on the induction thread:

Be sure to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
    Filtered water
    Mineral water
    Spring water
    Tap water

Additionally (after your 64 ounces daily), you can have the following:

Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
    Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carb content)
    Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine. Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.
    Carole

It all comes down to what you want... do you want to eat that food - or do you want to be healthy...

knowing that eating that food is going to lead to diabetes (most likely) and a host of other obesity related problems - you've got to get control of your life and kick that food to the curb...

You have got to come to hate sweets... not for how they taste but for what they have turned your life into... You are not weak, you are dealing with an addiction and figuring out how to make it through the first 72 hours should be your top priority.

So how are you going to succeed?

Re: Hi, starting tomorrow, May 13

Hey! Thanks for all the feedback and great ideas!

I checked out all those recipes, and some looked really great. Also, thanks Desertthorn for the motivating article.

I just woke up about an hour ago. For breakfast I had three pieces of thick-cut bacon, 2 eggs cooked in the bacon grease, and a string cheese. Needless to say, but wow!, I'm full. Usually I either wouldn't have breakfast, or have something like a Zone bar or a banana. This is quite a change.

I do have the book, and have read up to the induction chapter so far. Even though I get the science behind the diet it still felt "wrong" to eat all this fatty, greasy food for breakfast when trying to lose weight.

Foucsed, how are you doing with your first day?

For me tonight, around 11pm to 1am will be the real challenge. This is the time when the leftover easter candy cravings being to call my name... I would throw it out, but it also belongs to my 6'4" 170 pound husband so I can't. I just hoping that in a few days I won't even care that it's there.

Could you get your hubby to move it to a 'secret store' so it is not calling your name?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                    Hello, AMC!
So far, so good. Breakfast is 3 scrambled eggs, steak, spinach and tomatoes. Delicious!

Hope you made it through the night. Love Lizellen's suggestion to have hubby move the candy.
