  • First time for everyhing...explosions!

    Hey

My name is Piggybum and I am from the UK. I just returned from Ibiza where I put on so much weight , I went straght onto Atkins the minute I got home! I began on Monday, have stuck to it, I have not had one biscuit, chocolate square, toast, nothing, nothing at all!

I weighed in at 13 stone 11 pounds on Monday morning.

I weighted in at 13 stone 4 pounds and 3/4 this morning, so that's a big weight loss in a few days!

The problem is this - MY HEAD IS KILLING ME! I HAVE A MONSTER HEADACHE and I am SUPER lethargic! My skins cleared up which is good, but I am literally so close to packing it in, because I feel so s**t!

    Is this normal?

Here is what I've been scoffing.

Breakfasts: Scrambled eggs cooked in the microwave with a splodge of full fat whipped cream and some grated cheese with butter and one of those Mattesons Smoked Sausages (full fat)

Lunch: Tuna in sunflower oil on a Salad with celery, spring onion and red pepper

Dinner: Grilled chicken with chopped up garlic and bacon with peppers, spring onion, mushrooms with butter

Pudding: Sugar free Jelly (only once this week)

I've taken painkillers but I honestly feel like absolute DEATH!

    Advice anyone??

BTW I've just signed a book deal here in the UK so I want to be slim and sexy when I meet my editor in three weeks - I know this is a bit ambitious but if I could even be another half stone lighter I will be so very happy! I am five foot 8 so I can carry the flab and look curvy rather than obese but still..condidence is key!!

    Thankyou so much!!

It's called "induction flu"... ie. you're going through carb withdrawal.

It should clear in a day or two and leave you feeling great.

Thankyou, I just got up and thought id cook dinner, which is *drum roll*

Two Pork chops cooked in butter, some broccoli, mushrooms, spring onions and red peppers with my own home made sauce of single cream (it's quite low carb and I didn't use much) with lazy garlic and butter, salt and pepper with 2 eggs scrambled in butter. Lots of FAT! That should help?

I don't think I've ever stuck to Atkins properly so perhaps this is why I am not used to this **** of a headache! And I smell!!!!!!

          Hi

Welcome to our international ADBB family

It looks as if you are off to a flying start
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

            Welcome to the Board!

When you switch from a diet high in carbohydrates to a low carb diet, your body does not have enough enzymes to efficiently change acyl-CoA to acyl-carnitine and carry the latter across the mitochondrial walls for ketone body synthesis (energy). As Forrest said, once the switch is complete in the next couple of days, you will feel much better. Did you know we get more energy molecules from fat than from carbohydrates for the same number of carbon molecules? This means that once you begin to convert fats to fuel in an efficient manner, your energy levels will be higher than they were on your previous way of eating.

Congrats for the pounds lost and happy Atkinsing!

P.S. If you haven't done this already, check the ingredients in those sausages.

              Re: First time for everyhing...explosions!

Aw wow, what a lovely welcome! Thanks!! Well the headache has gone after I drank some diet coke and had some tea. I feel like I had to force it a bit though. It's day 4 now, but my appetites dropped..which is unusual for me.

The sausages, I know what you mean by being concerned, these ones have 0 carbs and are all fat and protein yum!

              Just gotta keep at it.

I want to have a couple of drinks tomorrow to celebrate my book deal, so is it ok to drink white wine or vodka lime and soda??

              xx

Ugh. Dr. Atkins observed that aspartame has a higher chance to stall our weight loss compared to other sweeteners, which is why it is not one of the sweeteners allowed on Atkins. The reason why you are feeling better after Coke is the caffeine in it, but it has the disadvantage that it can mess up your blood sugar.

                Congratulations for the book deal!

For Induction, the book says (Chapter 18, p. 230):

Wait until OWL Rung 5 and then you celebrate two events in one -- your book deal and your weight loss results. You want to maximize your weight loss and alcohol will work against you as the body has to burn it first before going back to burning fat.

Until OWL Rung 5, try to find another way to celebrate -- a massage, a day at the spa, some exotic "legal" food, etc.

I know a member here who has her weight loss stalled for about a week whenever she drinks alcohol. Since you want to look your best by the time you meet your editor, a one week stall is definitely not something you want to bring on yourself.

Thanks, and isn't ketosis lovely? NO! I smell, feel zapped of energy, low concentration, tired, wobbly, dizzy and quite pissed off! xx
Hahaha! Sorry... you'll really feel so much better in 1-2 days.
