  • Ready to give up! (vent warning)

    So it's been 2 weeks.

I've lost 3 pounds and no inches. I am SO ready to throw in the towel!
    What the ****?
I don't even feel like going into it.
my stupid boyfriend lost like 10 pounds LIKE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO and i'm all trying to convince him i haven't been cheating all the time! seriously about to cry here. I've been using ketostix everyday and they're always pink and purple. what the ****? the first time i did atkins back in 2003 it did NOT go like this.
i don't want any more friggin gross chicken or sausage or beef or cheese! there was the hugest artery in my chicken the other day... now i'm about to vomit AND cry. i'm sick of cheese, i can't go number 2 no matter what i take and i'm a friggin fart machine! This just isn't worth it anymore.

now i remember why i've given up on this so many times!!! I HATE the food and it doesn't work for me! maybe it's my thyroid, who knows but i'm not doing anything wrong. If i'm gonna lose 1.5 pounds a week i'll go back to stupid weight watchers where i can eat stuff that doesn't make me want to barf and I'm able to go to the bathroom everyday. and p.s. even the thought of salad or vegetables just makes me want to starve. i've been eating plenty of that crap too.

no has to reply to this or ask what i'm doing that could be making it not work so great- i just had to get it OUT! what a miserable disappointing 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't be discouraged! There are some things to think about, like is it near your TOM (Time of Month)? Sometimes that can mess up weight loss temporarily because you may retain water. I retain anywhere from 3-7 pounds during my TOM.

Have you been exercising? Have you been drinking all your water?
You might want to post your menues in the "Review my Menu Forum" to see if they need tweaking.

my stupid boyfriend lost like 10 pounds LIKE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO and i'm all trying to convince him i haven't been cheating all the time!
Smack your boyfriend for me! lol. Men lose "faster" than women, typically. It's a hormonal thing. Everyone can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight they need to lose during the first 14 days. So if you have a 10 pound weight loss goal, you can expect to lose 1/2 to 1 pound. If you have a 100 pound goal, you can expect to lose 5-10 pounds.

seriously about to cry here. I've been using ketostix everyday and they're always pink and purple. what the ****?
It really doesn't matter how dark the stix are. As long as its turned a color, you're in ketosis. So don't pay too much attention to the stix. They aren't fool proof.

the first time i did atkins back in 2003 it did NOT go like this.
Don't expect your weight loss to be the same or similar. You are older now. As you age your metabolism might slow down. So making comparisons isn't a good idea.

i don't want any more friggin gross chicken or sausage or beef or cheese! there was the hugest artery in my chicken the other day... now i'm about to vomit AND cry. i'm sick of cheese, i can't go number 2 no matter what i take and i'm a friggin fart machine! This just isn't worth it anymore.
I hope you were eating your vegetables too! And taking a fiber supplement.

If you are constipated, then that might account for the "extra" weight you are carrying.

Again, post your menues in the Review My Menu forum.

You really should pick the diet that you can do. Don't pick Atkins because you think you might lose weight faster. If you don't like the food, it's going to be very hard to stick with it.

        It really is ok.

This way of eating is not for everybody. Quite frankly, if I wasn't losing, hated the food choices and felt miserable, I would not do this diet.

I'm not sure why everybody seems to think that Atkins is some kind of 'cure for whatever ails you' diet that will work miracles for one and all.

Take a step back and see if in fact you wouldn't be more at ease on a traditional low cal diet.

What's important is that you find a way to get the weight off and be happy with yourself... not which diet you follow.

Re: Ready to give up! (vent warning)

i dont know where you're buying your food from but i'm spending less on groceries than i ever did. mostly because I dont go shop at whole foods where everything is expensive.
If you're sick of cheese, -dont eat it-. If you're sick of chicken and sausage and beef, -eat turkey and fish-. if you hate salad veggies, -go find some you like-. that veggie list is frigging long as my arm. if you've finished 2 weeks, move onto owl so you have more food choices. you need to get yourself under control because it sounds to me like you're throwing a temper tantrum because you haven't lost as much as you wanted to. i doubt if you were down 20lbs you'd be freaking out like you are.

over my first 3 weeks, i lost about 5lbs. that included losing almost 10 my first week then -gaining- the next two weeks. freaking out and crying and stamping your foot doesn't solve anything. what does solve it is looking over your menu. check your percentages, cut out the things you think might be stalling you (cheese and sausage for me personally), check your water and your fat intake, and excercise every day.
you need to learn to fiddle around with your menu until you find out what messes you up, and you need to check the labels on -everything-. the other day i bought fish that was processed with whey and milk. wtf! if you can't go to the bathroom, you need to up your fiberous veggies, try flax or those husk thingies, and work out.

even if you do all that right, your body will lose when it feels like losing. what is the point of getting frustrated? you are 3lbs lighter! you could be 3 lbs heavier. so why do you ask if it doesnt work for you, it obviously does. you need to be an active participant in your own success, pay attention to what you think may stall you, and don't use not losing as fast as a boy as an excuse to start the cycle of gaining all over again. no weight loss program is going to help you if you want to give up when it doesn't happen as fast as you want it to.

I feel your pain! This is also my second time with Atkins and the first time was so much easier. I lost 80lbs in three months. Now it's been four months and I've lost 43lbs and I've been stuck for a month at the same weight. You can either push through it or try something else. In all honesty if you are soo unhappy with Atkins then you shouldn't be doing it. You will not see any results this was. Good luck

lol damn straight! gosh, you're a smart one.

look- there are plenty of diets to help you safely, effectively and slowly lose weight. I've done them all. I'm sure we all have. And i'll bet a lot of the people on atkins do it partially for the quicker loss, especially at induction. but losing almost nothing the first two weeks coupled with this being the first time i'm doing this since i've been on thyroid meds, i have every right to be upset and frustrated. induction sucks, maybe not for everyone, but for someone who really starts to feel nauseated when they eat rich fatty foods (and don't tell me about vegetables because you have to eat the meats and cheeses too) it's miserable when day after day you do everything right and don't lose.
I have an event on the 23rd that I wanted to hopefully lose a good 10 pounds for (started on april 30th) and thought atkins was the best way. guess not.

and i'm allowed to stomp my foot wherever and whevever i want. no little brat from the internet is going to tell me that my frustration is unfounded and undeserving of a rant! your post was a bit arrogant. sorry but if you act like a brat i'm gonna call you a brat.

thanks to everyone else who chose NOT to be a brat.

Kib, don't feel bad. Your natural response was to want to try to help. The poster did state 'no one need reply' and that she wasn't looking to find where she was going wrong, but around here, we are used to trying to help folks make a success of Atkins. I applaud your effort to 'pay it forward' by making concrete suggestions and trying to be encouraging.

MsM, if you can do WW and lose 1.5 pounds a week, go for it. Kibskix had only good intentions. Generally folks post to get help and advice. I think you were a bit hard on her, when 99 percent of the time folks do want encouragement.

I'm sorry, I don't get it. You post what you did (call it a vent if you want, I call it a tantrum) on a pro-Atkins board, one that works hard to respond to everyone's needs and pain and support them on their weight loss journey, and don't expect any one to respond? Again, don't get it.

Re: Ready to give up! (vent warning)

You should have lost more weight than you did.

You say you have started on thyroid meds... it may be that you haven't gotten to your optimum dosage yet... It took me about 6 months to finally have my blood tests show that my thyroid was in the 'normal' range after upping the dosage three times.

All though you may quit the diet, you should at least try to figure out why it didn't work because that might help you with whatever other diet you decide to do...

I understand your frustration... I hate veggies and the only one I have is lettuce... I hate water and thus drink soda and crystal light, I don't like cooking so I have junk like hamburgers and hot dogs and bologna... I have to take 17 pills a day and I can't swallow pills so I take them with honey which is 7 carbs right there... there are all sorts of reasons why this diet shouldn't work for me, but now that my thyroid is where it should be, and my blood sugar is stable, the diet makes me feel great, and that's the main reason I'm on it, losing a pound every couple of weeks is just a bonus...

Good luck in whatever you decide to do

Re: Ready to give up! (vent warning)

Found this on another board that i am on

                        Hello, do you know me?

If you don't, you should. I'm a pound of fat,

and I'm the HAPPIEST pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.

                        Want to know why?

                        It's because no one ever wants to lose me;

I'm ONLY ONE POUND, just a pound!

Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds, or fifteen pounds,

                        But never only one.

So I just stick around and happily keep you fat.

Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it.

That is, until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty or even more pounds in weight.

Yes, its fun being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT, left to do as I please.

So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one pound."

(As if that were such a terrible thing.)

For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.

And, I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.

                        Happy Days!!!

After all, I'm ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT!!!

I love this response and agree 100%. I fully believe that there is no one eating plan that works for absolutely everyone. My mother had thyroid issues and Atkins did not work for her, at least not after a small amount of initial weight loss.

I really am so sorry that you are frustrated. There is nothing worse than feeling as though you can't control your own body. I wish you the very best in whatever you decide to do!

Hi msm! I know you didn't intend your post to be funny, but it cracked me up. I have been frustrated the last few days as well, and absolutely bored senseless with the food choices. Now, I have had some success, at least that's what the scale says, but I can't see it, and my clothes don't see it either. I have decided to give it another week and if nothing changes, start looking at some other diets.
