  • Currently 122lb

Hi I'm a newbie and would like some help! I currently weigh 122lb and am 5ft4. About a month ago I weighed 119 and due to depression which led to consuming about 3000 calories worth of cake a day led to me putting on pounds which I'm now stressing about because I'm going on holiday in 5weeks and would like to go back to 119lbs by eating healthily. I'm starting the atkins today and wondered how much weight i could lose during the 2 week induction phase? also am I allowed to take vitamin supplements during the induction phase? I have bought acai berry capsules but i'm not going to take them unless I am allowed!

I think you need to talk to someone about eating disorders. No offense. Three pounds is really nothing, esspecially since you are the lowest weight for your height.
    ...BLESSED...

TOTAL INCHES LOST: 19.5 in less then 2months!

Hun, stop eating cake, eat healthily, take supplements and buy a bicycle. Or go swimming or something. 120 pound is your ideal weight, you don't need a weight loss plan, just less sugar and more movement and you'll be fine.

thanks for your concern, no i don't have an eating disorder. the reason why i considered the atkins diet was because i don't want to end up with an eating disorder. sorry I did mistype my weight in my first thread I used to be 112 so I need to loose 10lbs. sorry for the confusion i'm from england and we normally use stones rather than pounds!

But again, you have to realize, going by pounds, 120 pounds is the ideal weight for a female of your height. You don't have enough to lose for us to feel comfortable advising you, and none of us would advise you to lose 10 pounds. Getting your body into ketosis means changing your whole metabolism. You would need to change from a carb burning body system to a fat burning body system. Most us plan to stay in at least a small degree of 'fat burning mode' permanently, even once we reach maintenance. Can you honestly say you will stay on a low carb plan once you lose your few pounds? I honestly doubt it, which would mean you would change your metabolism only to change it back later, and then maybe gain a few, yo-yo back to low carb... and might start a bad pattern.

In your case, less extreme measures than the rigors of switching to ketosis are in order. You know eating lots of sugar was bad, so stop. Eating healthily and exercising is your best option.

Yes.. we're jealous. I was a tiny tiny once too, and I know the allure of being just that little bit smaller. I was a size 4 before I had kids. But you would be using a sledgehammer for the job of a rock hammer. In 5 weeks of a good exercise program you have have a body that rocks. Try Core Fusion, dance or walk dvds, Callanetics, something incorporating weights, etc. Really that is what you need, not the 'big guns' diet aspect of the Atkins approach.

Ditto, what everone has said.... agreeing, I suggest you think more in the long term - why you were depressed and ate cake to sooth your mood is of more concern than the small effect of one episode of binge eating that puts on a bit of weight, if it becomes a recurring event. Think of your holiday in the short term future as an opportunity to get yourself more fit, more active, rather than stressing about the few stones, which may trigger more trouble...

Being that you are so close to your normal weight you aren't going to lose a lot during the 2 week induction phase. However, since you put on all that weight in just a month and aren't losing long term pounds, it should come off as easily as it went on...

Keep your carbs under 20, try to stay around 1200 calories, keep your fat intake high, and exercise as much as you can... You might not be 112 in 5 weeks, but you will be a lot closer!

Acai berry capsules are just like any other supplement. You are supposed to take supplements on Atkins.
