  • Questions about Induction

I have some questions in regards to the vegetables allowed in induction. I have the list of allowed veggies but was wondering how much is allowed? I have heard 2-3 cups per day and also 12-15 carbs... so I'm just wondering. If you have a salad with 2 cups of lettuce and a cup of cucumbers, that won't equal out to 12-15 carbs... so I'm not really following how this whole thing works. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it!

    Re: Questions about Induction

The 12-15 net carbs rule was added by Atkins Nutritionals after Dr. Atkins' death. At ADBB we are following DANDR 2002, where there is no mention of 12-15 net carbs. In DANDR 2002, it simply says you should eat 3 cups of vegetables per day---either 3 cups of salad vegetables, or 2 cups of salad vegetables and 1 cup of "other" vegetables---and over half of your net carbs should come from veggies.

So eating 2 cups of lettuce and 1 cup of cucumbers would be okay, according the first rule among these two. However, since lettuce and cucumbers are very low in carbs, it will limit the amount of other carbohydrate-containing foods you can eat, like eggs, cheese, cream, avocado, spices, sweetener, olives, lemon juice, etc.

Do you know if scallops are allowed in induction? Also, do I have to eat 20 grams of carbohydrates per day? Because if I eat seafood, they contain no carbs so I will only be eating the carbohydrates from the salad. Thank you for your help Georgiana.

        Yep, they are allowed.

No, you have to eat not more than 20 net carbs. So if you only have 12, you're doing fine. Just remember that over half of them should come from three cups of vegetables.

Seafood actually has carbohydrates. Scallops have about 2 g in 3 oz. Squid is similar. Mussels and oysters are higher in carbs (3-5 net carbs in 3 oz), so they are limited to 4 oz per day.
