  • Lost 5 lbs. in first 10 days

I lost five pounds in ten days, which I would call a success. I see others in the forum who claim losing a pound a day for a week (or even two), but I hardly expected this to happen to me.

At least I know that I'm in ketosis, considering all the food I'm eating. Of course, I'm exercising, too. I've dropped down a pants size finally, and seeing the pounds come off on the scales and seeing the tape measure move, it's easier to stick to the diet.

This sure beats the low-fat diet I was on before, where my stomach was growling all the time, and I only had bird-sized portions on my plate to eat.

It sounds as if you are well on the way to becoming a loser
    Keep up the good work
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Those are some amazing before and after pics of you. I saw at the bottom of your post that you still have 20 lbs. to go?

I'm curious - before you started your diet, was there some kind of event which clicked in your head to make you want to start dieting? After years (probably) of eating whatever you want, I can't imagine you just woke up one day and got out of bed saying, "I think I'll start dieting today." What made you want to turn the corner?

If you've told this story before, I guess I missed it. Thanks.

Re: Lost 5 lbs. in first 10 days

I think the main impetus was when in June 2003 one of our customers who had lost a lot of weight came into our shop and I asked him how he had done it.

He told me about this amazing diet he had discovered when on holiday in Canada where you could eat as much eggs, bacon and meat as you like and lose pounds easily!!

He also told me that the rules for it were in a book called 'Dr Atkins Diet' so not really believing there could be a diet such as he was extolling and there must be some sort of catch I looked for the book the next day and bought a copy of DANDR.

Although the Atkins Diet had been around for nearly 30 years I had actually never read anything about it till then or even heard of it. Maybe in UK it was never as popularised as in the USA? The theory at the beginning of the book seemed logical so I carried on reading it.

Partway through the book I started to think that it sounded easy and nothing like the lowfat and other diets I had tried to follow on and off for most of my adult life. So as soon as I had read the chapter on induction I began and the rest is history!!!

Though it was not till I ventured onto the internet about 6 months later and discovered Atkins support boards in general and ADBB in particular that I realised I was not really doing it correctly but following my own interpretation of it
