  • 5 days into induction - I have a question.

    Hello all,

I just wanted to check in. I am on day 5 of induction. I still feel very good. Im not hungry. Im still drinking plenty of water and I am still walking 30 to 60 minutes a day. Im finding that the support I have been getting from this site so far in the 5 short days of my journey has been a great help. Makes me feel like im not doing this alone. I have a question for ya....I realize that at first we are losing "water weight" ...how much weight is just the water? I seem to be off to a really great start as i some how managed to drop 9 pounds so far. Im sure that i'll slow down, but once the water wt is gone, Is there an average of what people take off per week during induction?

    Anyways, have a great day!

    Laura.

About the water weight. It depends on the amount of glycogen you had stored and there is no way to tell how much is water and how much is fat. In any case, it's 9 lbs gone forever, so woo hoo for you!

After the water is gone, your rate of weight loss depends on things like degree of metabolic resistance, amount of weight you have to lose, exercise routine, caloric intake, amount of water drank and so on.

So... my point here... As nice as it would be to know this, no one can tell how fast you'll keep losing weight or how much of the weight you've lost is water.

Personally I don't give a damn what caused the weight - when it is gone it is gone
      Congratulations with your 9 pounds.

Dr Atkins said this about whether we are losign water or fat
On any weight loss program, the first weight lost is water weight. Atkins is a particularly effective diuretic, so the water weight tends to come off fast on my program. But be assured that after four to five days, the pounds that come off are primarily fat.
But as the others said, it is 9 pounds you are no longer carrying around with you, so well done!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Probably depends upon total amount you need to lose, diet strictness, exercise level, water intake, muscle vol vs fat vol in your body, etc.

There seems to be a huge variety reported on the boards.

FYI, the body holds around 250-500 grams of glycogen which are being disposed of when you do low carb. Each gram of glycogen requires about 3-4 times its weight in water to store it in the body, so you could be losing anywhere from < 2 to > 5 lbs just from glycogen water loss (it is possible to lose water through other sources while dieting however). All in all, the more carbs you ate before you started a LC WOE, the more weight you can attribute to water loss
