  • Lil post for everyone who is having tough time on Induction

    Hi everyone

I wanted to let everyone know who is finding it tough to stay on Atkins..to hang in there.

I wanted to share my lil temptation battle which absolutely tested me.To be honest it felt as if someone was delibrately tried to sabotage me!

On Wednesday, I was running late for a workshop, didn't have my breakfast and went straight into the my class. Lo and behold there was the most scrumptious breakfast spread (and each and every thing was not induction freindly). Any how I resisted while my mind kept saying little piece won't hurt.

If that wasn't bad enough, the morning tea brought in apple slices, muffins the works...I stuck to my peppermint tea...To make matters absolutely worse, we were provided lunch again all non induction friendly...

After all the templations I DID NOT GIVE IN!!!! I held off, even when people were insiting...

In short - I stuck with it because I am doing it for MEEEE....not my partner, not peers, its MEEEE all along.

I know all of us can DO IT..stick with it..its worth it!

    Great job! Thanks for sharing.

Plus, at the end of the day, you felt good about not giving into all those wrong choices. I often ask myself..what is going to make me feel good at the end of the day? Eating something "illegal" might taste good for a minute but I won't like it at the end of the day.

Woo-hoo! Good for you! This morning I had my dad waving his baked apple pancake in my face. He decided to tease me and tell me how good it smells and all this and that. He says to me at one point, "How's it look?" I grinned and said "Full of carbs" and dumped my eggs in the pan.

I remember a family dinner one time and everyone was eating some sugary dessert. I just said no, thank you. My mom said, I feel sorry for you not having any dessert. I said..I feel sorry for you all eating all that sugar.

Doesn't it make you feel soooo good when you say No at times....

I reckon everyone can do it. Keep saying it to yourself and yes things get tough but between you and carb ...who should win??

Re: Lil post for everyone who is having tough time on Induction

Sad part is that people don't get it all the time. For some reason, people want to test us. That is why it is always good to carry something induction friendly with you.

Wonder if this same people would tempt the alcoholic with alcohol or the diabetic with sugar or the person with peanut allergies with nuts? If they know you are doing Atkins and still not making any accomodation, ask yourself why.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

What a victory, good for you!

                      You won!

I really have to wonder, reading that, what on earth they are thinking when they load people up with carbs like that and then expect them to stay alert enough to learn. I actually had an instructor stop the class around 2pm one afternoon and tell us to go get a carb fix so we could stay awake. Wow, that has never, ever, worked for me!

however carbs are the main source of energy

This is typically good advice (for non-LC'ers) if we're talking about slow-digesting complex carbohydrates with a low GI. It's even better advice if those carbs are paired with some protein/fat. After all, the brain preferentially uses glucose above all else.

True about the slow-digesting carbs, but people got up from their lab stations and hit the vending machines for candy bars or scarfed up more of the (provided) bagels and other pastries. The right kind of carbs are generally not the available kind in a scenario like that. Those have always meant a fight to keep eyes open for me. Of course, I was undiagnosed hypothyroid most of my life, too.

                              Hi Fofinha

                              Thank you for the message.

Just to be a bit clearer, I am on 14 day induction and eating 3 cups of vegetable for my carb intake and have removed sweets completely (even artificial)

The food in workshop was carbs which (even when you are not following Atkins, should be avoided)

Breakfast: scones (cream & jam), pineapples, strawberry & apple fruit mix, assortment of tea & coffee (I chose peppermint), muffins.

Morning tea : Apple cake, carrot cake with frosting, mini muffins & berry slices and sandwiches

Lunch : Chicken schnitzel with mashed potatoes and carrots with (gravy)

Erin B & vector2: Same here, I have no clue why you would want people to eat so much carbs non stop and then be expected to pay attention & keep your mind alert. I must say penny dropped (A lot of people were yawning after morning tea and just before lunch..may be that's why)
